[Ilugc] Ubuntu Precise numeric pad in laptop behaviour change

2015-12-05 Thread JAGANADH G
Hi
I am facing strange issue with numeric pad in my laptop.
When I am trying to type numbers in numeric pad it is either showing strage
number patters or turns to some functions
e.g If I type 357 it turns to 7=4
Plus sign takes screen shot left arrow key shows undo etc in editor .
Some kids played in my keypad and not sure if it was happened due to that.
Any hint to resolve the same.

If you are using QT based application; installing Netconnect software in
GNU/Linux will create issues. Any QT based app may not work. But your
netconnect GUI will work. I tried it in Fedora 16. Finally I removed the
software to work with QT based apps.

I am facing some similar issues. Exactly at 09.58 P.M my net will be
disconnected. Even I confirmed the same with one of my Friend too.

[Ilugc] Kenneth Gonsalvas a short bio

2012-08-03 Thread JAGANADH G
Kenneth Gonsalvas (KG / lawgon) passed away on 3rd Aug 2012. He was leading
light, mentor, evangelist and practitioner of Free and Open Source
Software. He was a geek up to his last moments. His demise is a great loss
to FOSS Community in India. May his soul rest in peace.

A short bio of Kenneth Gonsalvas (Prepared by KG only)

"Although he has no formal training in the IT field, Kenneth Gonsalves has
been programming since 1986, starting with Turbo Pascal, then moving to
Perl and finally to Python in 2003. Since then he has focused on Python in
general and the Django web frame work in particular. He is an open source
enthusiast and has spoken and written on open source right from 1995 when
he was first introduced to it. He has conducted over 50 seminars and
workshops in python and Django. He was the founder president of the Indian
Python Software Society and a member of the team that has organised the
highly successful Indian python conferences from 2009 to 2011. He is now
based in Ooty where he writes and consults on open source. He also conducts
a job oriented course in python and django. His other main interest is golf
and he holds an international certification as a golf referee and has
refereed several national level golf tournaments. He writes a regular
column called 'Foss is fun' for the LFY monthly. Most of his code
contributions are here: http://bitbucket.org/lawgon/";

He was a good mentor and friend to many of us.

I am not questioning the policy. Since the course is related to FOSS and

Considering that it may be good if non-tech degree holders are also allowed

This reason is quite simple. Things purchased by paying or stolen for
personal use are always sweet for the user. That siw hy ardent M$ product
users hate Free/Libre things.
It is human tendency to blame free things.
If a user is rich and willing to spend, and balme others that is his/her

I think as of now nobody is providing Speech corpus in Open Domain. There
was something available in this site http://www.nrcfosshelpline.in/. But is
it is not working now.
The better solution is Go to AIR website they may be publishing the daily
AIR Tamil news audio files. I am not sure . Just check . But there will be
lot of noise in those recording.

All these facilities are available in OpenOffice.org/ LibreOffice.
If you want some thing more than that you can try Lotus Symphey from IBM

The visual appeal VBA Macros, in Document, Spreadsheet etc are available in
OpenOffice.org, LibreOffice and Lotus Symphoney .
There are wonderful FOSS alternatives for Outlook like Thunderbird .

Pardon my ignorance. What do you mean by language model ?

A language model is a statistical model which populate from a data set.
Here I think OP is taling about creating language model for Speech
Processing. N-Gram is a kind of language model
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/N-gram

And by
> Tamil-corpus do you mean a large collection of tamil text ?
>

Corpus in the context of Natural Language Processing is:
A large collection of text .

There are different types of corpus such as Text Corpus, Speech Corpus,
Image corpus etc..

Here OP requires a text corpus. I think he can use the Tamil Wikipedia dump
as corpus for his research purpose. Or he can populate a corpus from
newspaper RSS feeds and Tamil blog feeds too.

CMU Sphinx is a Public Domain Software for Speech Recognition.
cmusphinx.sourceforge.net
If you are familiar with java you can work on this. Also it has some Python

[Ilugc] Mysql query issue

2011-04-01 Thread JAGANADH G
Hi All

I have a MySQL table and it contains around 20,000,00 records.
id(promary key and autogenerate),review(text),hash(int)) is the table
structure

There is a column called "hash",which has the hash value (generated
programatcally)
I am pretty sure that there is duplicate records in my table.Thats y i
generated a hash.
Now i would like to dedupe the table using hash.
This is the query i used for the said purpose

Positive : table name
id : auto generated id
hash : hash value
review : reviews

delete Positive
from Positive,
(
select MIN(id) minIdent, hash s
from Positive m
group by hash
having count(1) > 1
) as derived
where Positive.hash= derived.s
and id > minIdent

The above dedupe query is working.I checked it in a tabel which contains
10,000 records. All the duplicate hash values are removed.
But my problem is while trying the same query in large table (20,000,00),it
takes too long.
On a test run the query runs 24 hours and not completed

Is there anything which is wrong. Because I am not that much expert in DB

To work with GNU/Linux or in generally to do programming BE/BS/Degree and

No search Engine is capable enough to infer this . While throwing a keyword
or phrase to a search engine there is a "searchers/ users intention" .
Computer systems can't make any inference about the 'intention'.

I do agree . So why Search Engines like Google provides autosuggest and
related features

> Google is a verb now ;

It is more than a verb now . We can say there is a "googilization" (like
globalization ) and people addicted to it.

Search Engines like DDG, Hakia, Blekko etc has considerable difference from
Google . Google respects all the SEO professionals and others considers the
real content in the webpage ;-) .

DDG tries to disambiguate the search term and try to classify it . The same
thing is applied in Hakia in a different way . All we follows a circular
search behaviour in Google . DDG and others tries to reduce the cycle in
obtaining the desired search result. There is an interesting book called
"Search Patterns" . Reading the book may give more insight to this .

If somebody brings semantic search (fullfledged ) in to practice that will
be a Google Killer ;-)
