Thats the way it is. To release your software with Linux you need to
release the source code. That is how the agreement is structured. That is
the reason that every Linux is open source.

This reason is quite simple. Things purchased by paying or stolen for
personal use are always sweet for the user. That siw hy ardent M$ product
 users hate Free/Libre things.
It is human tendency to blame free things.
If a user is rich and willing to spend, and balme others that is his/her
will. But think of a day when you are not able read the first love letter
prepared in your computer using M$ product is not readable in your old
 days.

I myself use LibreOffice / Claws mail /
Thunderbird. I'm speaking about normal users, you know? Those who
don't care about FOSS and stuff. People who just want to get their
  work done, and fast.

If you are looking for the work to be done that is possible in OOo and
 LibreOffice

I would like to suggest some thing you may not like: try googling
something like, openoffice sucks or why I hate openoffice or
something similar. I know that most are mere nonsensical rants and
that many problems stated would have already been fixed in
LibreOffice. But then, see what they mean when they say usability /
ease - of -use / interface etc. I find LibreOffice pretty usable for
myself. Convincing people is a nightmare and I'm trying to do just
  that.

Just fall in love with Free/Libre stuff you will find how sweet it is

Ok, wrong terminology, 'normal user' is not the word that I intended.
What I meant was people who use Windows just to use MS Office. And the
cost of MS office that most of my friends use is about Rs. 50 (inclusive
of the cost of CD and CD burning charges ;)

For serious users who do not want to pirate, like companies and
enterprises, the prices don't seem to matter much. Even for Linux,
they'll be willing to spend about the same amount to BUY MS office for
Linux. I can't speak for myself because I am, and have been a Linux user
for a few years now and I've been quite comfortable using FOSS
applications. Believe me when I say, it's a myth that people go for FOSS
because it's 'free of cost'. Most people I know, are using Linux for
it's obvious technical advantages, some for the freedom and the rest for
 pure fun.

The few that are running MS Windows are refusing to switch to Linux
because of two reasons, GAMES and MS Office. I can show them cool games
for Linux like 0AD, etc. But if it so happens that MS office is
available for Linux as well, I'm positive there'll be atleast a few
hundred machines switching to Linux in my home town. You can simply not
speak about software freedom and philosophies of free software to them.
'Virus free' is the ONLY part they like about it.

I don't think they will. Because to build a Linux version and offer it to

do.

  - I am using UBUNTU 10.04, and the printer is working very well - with

Yeah when am using ubuntu, i installed using capt provided by them. It
worked fine. But they are providing deb and rpm packages only which i
 cannot use here

I think there are a lot of tips from Ubuntu site / Canon site - for

Try this, and if successful - tell others.

[Ilugc] Wi-Fi problem in Linux

2011-09-12 Thread Krishnan Sethuraman
Hi

I am using a compaq netbook running Ubuntu 10.04. I can seamlessly connect
to my home wi-fi and the there is no connectivity issues. Where as when I am
at office and connected to the office wi-fi the connection disconnects
suddenly. I need to restart to get it connected inspite of selecting connect
automatically. The same problem occurs when I lock my computer and unlock it
after some time. I tried running updates but the problem persists. Ubuntu
did not identify my driver it suggested for a third party driver and I
installed it. What should I do. Please help.

Is there anyone in the group who have connection with Elcot to find it?

I personally feel that there are very few genuine players in the market. You
can try and contact bitnetz.com, perhaps might be useful to you.

Try installing software through shell. If that too fails then check out the

If you are able to connect to other sites, this is most likely a DNS
issue. Try using one of the open DNS servers.
