Re: [Ilugc] Linus Torvalds To Join Microsoft To Head Windows 9 Project
This is a fake news. But, for those who concern about future of FOSS: * FOSS was started as a movement by Richard Stallman. * GNU OS was developed, but only the kernel was missing. * Linus has developed the kernel, and named it as Linux. * FOSS is really a huge movement, which involves millions of developers. * Nobody can derail this movement by spreading these kind of fake messages. * FOSS movement CAN and WILL survive after the days of RMS and Linus. * Their names and the moral values they have created will grow forever. ___ ILUGC Mailing List: http://www.ae.iitm.ac.in/mailman/listinfo/ilugc

Re: [Ilugc] WindowXp PHP MySQL Connectivity Problem
Hi Pankaj Kumar, I have the following suggestions, which work for me: 1. Remove all installations of Apache, MySQL PHP from the system and cleanup the registry. After restarting, install the wamp server. 2. Otherwise, you can try xampp server, which you can get from http://www.apachefriends.org/en/xampp-windows.html . It contains the latest versions than wamp. For any installation, we have to reset the root password manually and modify the config.inc.php for proper security setup. In several cases even if you pump in a lot of cash you cannot achieve the goal you have without knowledge. FWIW - another cool trick that works for my operations. 1. Pay Rs. 1000/year to MTNL (Mumbai) for a static IP Triband DSL. 2. I have my company DNS served by a gratis DNS service like everydns.net (they were recently bought by DynDNS) but there are still other free DNS hosting services. 3. Define a hostname eg. dslwanport.mydomain.com. 4. With full disclosure to client, define a port forwarding rule at client router to let my staff enter into their network from dslwanport.mydomain.com, directly from our office systems. 5. Next step remote network monitoring using above concept. The Rs. 83.33/month for static IP is well worth it. Alternately, you can map your dynamic IP via DynDNS as well but that would using one of their domain names. The static IP also allows me to come into my office LAN when I am on the road, I point my client to dslwanport.mydomain.com. FWIS, also take a look at TeamView, Logmein etc. for remote administration/access (free for non commercial use). -- Arun Khan ___ ILUGC Mailing List: http://www.ae.iitm.ac.in/mailman/listinfo/ilugc ___ ILUGC Mailing List: http://www.ae.iitm.ac.in/mailman/listinfo/ilugc

For this subject having one lab, namely called , Software Development Lab . In this lab, we have to do 10 small projects. I planned to do all the following syllabus projects using Ruby On Rails . But my Staffs are not supporting to do this semester projects in other Languages. They preferred only VB and ORACLE , because they know that only. Even though I was fighted with them and finally, they said OK to do in RoR. But now my HOD is opposing to that. He s asking me, while doing University Practical Examination, the External examiner will not accept your projects means, what can you do ? . what can i do ? Give me all your suggestions ! and I need NRC FOSS support to do my 5th sem simple projects in Open Source(RoR). ( * they doesn't oppose to do my final semester projects in Open-Source *) How can i approach this problem? http://www.indiastudycenter.com/Other/Syllabus/AnnUniv/PG/MCA/MC1804-Software-Development-Lab.asp Syllabus of Anna University Chennai MCA - 2005 Regulation - MC1804 Software Development Lab Develop Software using CASE tools for the applications like : 1. I preferred Umbrello for CASE TOOL* ) -- நன்றி , அருளாளன் . த Dear Arulalan, In the web site, it is clearly mentioned as Any front end tool, ANY BACKEND TOOL and ANY CASE TOOL. It did not mention, not to use Open Source. So, you can approach the university and submit your grievances. Of not knowing about open source tools, the external examiner cannot refuse your genuine project. If they not agree, they accept that they are incapapble of learning new technologies and unfit to validate your graduation!!! A successful Linux developer committed suicide in Bangalore today - K.T.Ligesh, founder of LxLabs, a Linux virtual server company apparently killed himself after a security vulnerability was found in his flagship app (the two events may be unrelated).. There were apparently no financial difficulties - police say that his bank account had crores. http://www.channelregister.co.uk/2009/06/09/lxlabs_funder_death/ The Lxlabs home page as well as the product lineup look very impressive, even by international standards. http://lxlabs.com/ The hypervisor manager (?) that they offer looks very polished, at least from the specs. Impressive work, coming from a 32-year old.. Tragic event, indeed - hits closer home than the events surrounding Hans Reiser a few years ago. -Siva It's so tragic. Virtually, it is too difficult to find a software without vulnerability. At his age of 32, he created a great virtualization platform. He could have done wonders in FOSS if he managed his emotional feelings. - Rajendhran Explore and discover exciting holidays and getaways with Yahoo!
