[Ilugc] change attachment file name in mutt command

2015-10-30 Thread Suresh Kumar
Hi,
i am sending mail with an attachment using the mutt command
since the file name is not relevant (say it generates names like..
012342.out )
i want to change the name of the file before attaching it..

for example
mutt -s "Test Message" -a /backups/012345.out -c toemai...@gmail.com

want to rename the file "012345.out' before attaching it.

only option i have is that, make a copy of the file in another location,
then rename it as you like and then attach it from that location and then
delete the file from that location.

any other solution..?

[Ilugc] Difference between linux tc & tcng (traffic control)

2012-10-08 Thread Suresh Kumar
Hi,

Recently I started using the linux traffic control (tc) utility for
setting up the QoS.
I came to know, there is another utility called "tcng", which serves
better & more features.
IS tcng completely different utility? Has it built from scratch (or)
developed on top of "tc"?

Basically i want to compare "tc & tcng", which one have more features
and easiness.

Can someone share their experience?

[Ilugc] Running apache on different port

2012-05-04 Thread Suresh Kumar
Hello friends,

i am currently running a Red Hat 5.2 Linux server,
i have the current scenario as
we have a kerio mailserver running on this machine , it runs on port 80
but i also want to run apache server simultaneously, so when i checked for
the status of the apache server
 it said that "httpd stopped",
if i start the httpd service, i am sure that i there will be a conflict.
so in order to avoid this, i am planning to run the apache server at
different port say 81
( i think this can be setup by changing the Listen:80 to Listen:81 in the
httpd.conf file)
but in that case the webpages will be served only when i explicitly
mention the port no as 81
 for eg:
http://localhost:81
but what i want to do is that . i want to run apache server at port 81 and
want to access the pages without mentioning the port 81
 some thing similar to
   http://localhost

Is this possible..?

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

Thanks. Yes. it emulates the netowrk nodes. The end application is network
emulator. similar to the neptune.

Any one can help me on this topic. Still i am struck with xen.
I have read on some technical paper, single core processor with 4GB can
support 3-4 guest os in xen. Is this correct? any one tried? if i use, some
12 core/16 core processor (I guess, some high end servers are available
with 32 core), i think 50 emulation is possible.
Any suggestions?

Something like this.. with light weight.

Why you dont like xen? some technical reason? Also qmenu is emulating other
hardware arch correct?

Can you clarify , how did u get this number 128MB per instance?
I though probably less than 32MB per instance. (Customized kernel - 2MB and
some scripts, and routing application (may be 10MB). So total img size
would be less than 15MB. while executing Memory food print can be less than
32MB(kernel space + user space). This is my assumption. Please correct me
i am wrong.

Dear all,

I am involved in some emulation application.

I am looking for virtualization software (hypervisor - hardware & software

I understand that hypervisor is hardware arch specific. So i will be using
intel arch (x86 based arch - latest dual core processor. ).
I thinking of using xen.
I have two queries.
1) Any other alternate for xen which has very small footprint?
2) Is it possible to emulate 50 nodes in latest x86 based desktop/server?

I tried wordpress. its really nice and easy to use. I developed the
website in few days.
Are they any such framework which just use php alone (without
mysql),html,stylesheet.
Because my website doesnt require mysql (no database related activity) ,
Also hosting cost is high with database support.
(For ex: without mysql support, just 500Rs per year(approx). with mysql
support 1600Rs per year(approx)).

Please share your suggestions.

  Sorry for the delayed response...
i have followed the steps in the above link, except that, i have not
changed the document root to
/srv/www/ and so i have not created symbolic links
instead i have left my project files reside at /var/www/htm/project1 ,
project2...

 i have created a vhost.conf in the path /etc/httpd/conf.d/vhost.conf.
 here is the contents...

NameVirtualHost *:80

  DocumentRoot /var/www/html/dev_setup/
  ServerName dev_setup
  ServerAlias www.dev_setup.com

  ServerAdmin ad...@gmail.com
  DocumentRoot /var/www/html/dev.bobstores.com/
  ServerName dev.bobstores.com
  ServerAlias dev.bobstores.com

and the entries in the /etc/hosts file are ...

127.0.0.1 wks17.isinfotech.com wks17 localhost.localdomain localhost
localhost4
::1 wks17.isinfotech.com wks17 localhost6.localdomain6 localhost6

127.0.0.1 www.cefpress.com cefpress.com
127.0.0.1 dev.bobstores.com dev.bobstores.com

Now i am able to view the virtual sites, as
http://dev_setup/
http://cefpress.com
http://dev.bobstores.com

but not able to view the sites which i create at /var/www/html/
 for example
if create a new project at mobilesite at /var/www/html/mobilesite

and try to access it as http://localhost/mobilesite/

i get the following error - " The requested URL /mobilesite was not found
on this server. "

do i need add corresponding entry to the /etc/httpd/conf.d/vhost.conf and
/etc/hosts files.?

Please let me know.

[Ilugc] More than one Virtual Host setup's

2011-06-28 Thread Suresh Kumar
Hello Friends,

I am using Fedora 14 (LAMP) setup (php)

i have been using virtual host setup for various project in my system.
currently i am using different .conf files(httpd.conf) for each of the
projects..
basically what i am trying to set up is that, i download the project files &
database from the live server and make a local setup in my machine
so for each of the projects i have set up a virtual host in my local machine
with the same url as the live server

*for example: if i have to work in http://dev.project1.com *

then i carry out the following steps

*Step 1*
==
mv httpd.conf httpd_normal.conf
mv httpd_project1.conf httpd.conf

virtual host setting for project1 in httpd_project1.conf

ServerName cefpress.com
DocumentRoot /var/www/html/dev.project1.com

( access url from my localhost - http://dev.project1.com )

*Step 2*
==

edit my /etc/hosts file, uncomment the corresponding project path

127.0.0.1 wks17.isinfotech.com wks17 localhost.localdomain localhost
localhost4
::1 wks17.isinfotech.com wks17 localhost6.localdomain6 localhost6
#127.0.0.1 dev.project1.com dev.project1.com -(in this case uncomment this
line )
#127.0.0.1 project2.com project2.com
#127.0.0.1 project3.com localhost

*Step 3*
==

restart the appahe server

/etc/init.d/httpd restart
=
my config files in /etc/httpd/conf/ are

-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 34631 Mar 28 20:13 httpd_project1.conf
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 34698 May 24 22:01 httpd_project2.conf
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 34417 May 24 22:01 httpd_normal.conf
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 34629 Apr 7 18:10 httpd_project3.conf

---
virtual host setting for project1 in httpd_project2.conf

ServerName cefpress.com
DocumentRoot /var/www/html/project2.com

access url from my localhost - http://project2.com
---

virtual host setting for project1 in httpd_project3.conf

ServerName cefpress.com
DocumentRoot /var/www/html/project3.com

access url from my localhost - http://project3.com
---

Is there a way where i can work on with my projects setups in localhost with
executing the above 3 steps.?

Hope i am clear with my problem, please let me know if any
other information is required.

[Ilugc] cp command with retaining permission

2010-11-12 Thread Suresh Kumar
Hi all
i am copying files from one folder to another folder

while copying i am using the following command.

 cp –pvr oldfolder/
 /var/www/vhosts/newsite/httpdocs/app/webroot/newfolder/

so the permission and the owner and groups are retained

now i want to change (recursively) the owner and group of the newfolder/
to a new owner and group
for example
 if it has like this...

 /var/www/vhosts/newsite/httpdocs/app/webroot/newfolder/

 myflles/ 777 (rights) wonder (owner)
 psgrp (group)

 ro/755 apache
apache

 de/ 777 wonder
   apache

 one.jpg 777 wonder
 psgrp

 two.jpg755 apache
 apache

after using the chown (newwonder) and chgrp (newpsgrp) , i wanted to as
below.

 /var/www/vhosts/newsite/httpdocs/app/webroot/newfolder/

 myflles/ 777 (rights) newwonder (owner)
newpsgrp (group)

 ro/755 apache
apache

 de/ 777 newwonder
 apache

 one.jpg 777 newwonder
   newpsgrp

 two.jpg755 apache
 apache

so hope you understand..

like i want to change the owner and group of the newly copied folder
(newfolder) if and only if the owner was wonder and group was psgrp. (in
other words not to change the owner and group if it was .. apache )

Thanks

[Ilugc] help needed for software profilier,

2010-08-26 Thread Suresh Kumar Subramanian
Hi,

I am doing project in C/Linux. I am interested to increase the performance and
optimize my project..

1) Memory debugging ( To identify the memory leak , unused or
unintialized variables etc)

2) Profiling

3) Static code analysis

4) Dynamic code analysis

Can you please suggest some open source tools to perform the above. I just
surfed and identified the below.
But not sure whether this is the best fit for C/Linux coding. Please suggest
the some other opensource tools.

Memory debugging tool & Profiling:
http://valgrind.org/
TAU Performance : http://www.cs.uoregon.edu/research/tau/home.php
I prefer valgrind as it is simple and inbuilt with linux.

[Ilugc] Light weight Graphics library for embedded system

2010-07-19 Thread Suresh Kumar Subramanian
Hi,

I am looking for light weight graphichs library for developing
the embedded application. I require to perform the below
1)draw the pixel(or line) graph.
2)display the live video (video camera connected to the board)
3)user interface for configuration (with few user interface buttons such
as text box, radio button etc).

Please suggest some light weight opensource graphic library for this purpose.

Tried QT, openGL ES and looks like those are heavy(in terms of understanding
the library, development, processing) for my requirements.
Currently I am evaluating the directFB.

Please let me know which is more suitable for my requirements.

In cisco hardware we can create 'N' number of loopback devices (lo1,lo2,lo3,lo4
etc). This is useful to simulate multiple networks for testing.
I am looking for similar capability in linux. But linux supports only one
loopback device (lo).
I am not sure, adding multiple alias to the loopbackdevice will solve my

[Ilugc] loopback address

2010-03-22 Thread Suresh Kumar Subramanian
Hi,

1) How do i add multiple loopback address in the linux (similar to cisco hw).
I have one ethernet interface (192.168.101.2/24), and i want to simulate
multiple
private networks(10.1.1.1/24,10.2.1.1/24,10.3.1.1/24). I thought i can add
multple
loopback interface for each network. But i am able to add only one loopback
device in the linux (I have used ifconfig lo 10.1.1.1 command for loopback
device confguration. Also it doesnt accept the mask)
Any idea how to add multiple loopback addresses?

2) Also routing table doesnt show the loopback device.
I mean, If i ping the loopback device it pings. (ex : ping 10.1.1.1 - ping
works)
Suppose i want to ping the loopback device from the eth0 interface then ping
failed( Ex : my eth0 ip is 192.168.101.2, & loopback ip is 10.1.1.1.
ping -I eth0 10.1.1.1 is failed.no response)

How do i add the route for the loopback devices.

My setup:
FC12
one ethernet interface present 10/100Mbps.

Thanks for suggestion. I have choosen to integreate the following stuffs

For routing applications : XORP or Quagga
Firewall : iptables
IPSEC VPN : Strongswan or Openswan or Openvpn
Webserver : Apache

The main goal is to implement a proof of concept in IPSEC VPN. So identifying
the IPSEC VPN open source is the challenging job than choosing other
applications.

Hi,

I am much impressed with zeroshell interface and features. But still I want to
choose
 the applications and build myself.

There are two advantages for integrating the applications.
1) we have plenty of choices in the applications
2) we can have full control of the applications and gaining the knowledge of it.
Obviously, the execution time will be more.
Also I spent some time to make the build setup for my target. In this context
adding
the application will be easy for me instead of changing altogether.

2) There are so many variances in the kernel image file (vmlinuz, bzImage,

Hi,

2)) building the RootFS & disk controller for that disk in to the kernel.

I assume that, ramdisk image is the separate image for only filesystem (initrd)
and the second options is no initrd image file, kernel file(vmlinux) includes
the filesystem also.
Is that correct?
Can you please share your experience if you come across this(ramdisk or

ntpd is one of the commonly used. Run one of the server as ntpd server. And
reset of the servers are ntpd client and point the ntpd server. It will sync

$ script /tmp/output.txt

will start a new shell and redirect all the input and output commands
to the file /tmp/output.txt

You need not give a filename as argument.

This is a simple but very powerful command and can be used for a
variety of debugging tasks.

If you wish to have a key recorder program, you are looking for
ttyrec(1) and ttyplay(1).

It is not the right way. Many processes are running in the system, so
time to time usage may very in small amount and the memory used by the
application may not recollected imdly at the end of execution.

If the application is running for very short time, it is hard to see
the effect of memory leakage. So you should try memory debuggers like
valgrind to analysis the code.

Bye :)

[Ilugc] How to measure the CPU Usage in linux

Hi All,

I have developed the small application in linux. I would like to measure the
CPU &memory usage of this application.

tests:
1) CPU Usage of this application
2) Memory Usage of this application
3) Any memory leakage (measure the free memory before start the application,
measure the free memory after the application ends - both values should be
equal)
4)CPU check --- (Measure the CPU utilization before start the app, measure
the CPU usage after the application ends .- both values should be
equal)

I tried "ps -e -o pcpu, cpu, args --sort " command to measure the CPU
utilization of the process.

I am not sure how to check 2),3),4) the test.

Re: [Ilugc] I2C Driver development

2009-10-06 Thread Suresh Kumar
Hi Girish,

I am develping i2c driver for temperature sensor.
I guess two methods of available for driver development.
legacy method using i2c.h header file & using the legacy functuions like
i2c_detect(adapter, &addr_data, detect),i2c_smbus_read_byte_data(client, reg)
et.
another method is bitwise operations which internally uses the legacy
method using i2c-algo-bit.h header file & using the functions like
setscl,getscl,setsda,getsda.

I just want to understand the difference of these two, and require some
guidelines for develope the driver.

thanks

Your question is too hard for me.

How do you develop using a header file?

What is it that you mean? Can you phrase your question better?

What do you want to do with i2c bus?

You want to develop a driver for what? TV card?

after clicking the Network Settings
 Under the *Overview* tab
i have 2 devices listed
*1*.*L2 100 Mbit Ethernet Adapter Not Configured*

highlighting this, the it displayed the details as below

" L2 100 Mbit Ethernet Adapter (Not connected)
BusID : :02:00.0
Unable to configure the network card because the kernel device (eth0, wlan0)
is not present. This is mostly caused by missing firmware (for wlan
devices). See dmesg output for details."

*2. Ethernet Network Card 192.168.1.1*
and the details for this were
"Ethernet Network Card (No hwinfo)
• Device Name: eth0
• Started automatically at boot
• IP address: 192.168.1.1, subnet mask 255.255.255.0
• eth0 (IP address: 192.168.1.1, subnet mask 255.255.255.0)"

under the *Hostname/DNS* tab i have the following settings
Hostname :inuxserver
Domain Name:site
Change Hostname via DHCP(this option is checked and not editable)(No
interface with DHCP)
rest all are left blank

Under *Routing *Tab

for Default Gateway i have added the following

yes baskar , i followed you way...
but when typer "ker" in the command prompt of the ubuntu (>grub)
autocomplete of the "kernel" was successful, after that nothing appeared ,
instead i got an error message
"Error 1: Filename must be either an absolute pathname or blocklist"
similarly i tried for "initrd" , i got the same error

so what i did was i type it manually as below
"kernel /vmlinuz-2.6.25.5-1.1-pae root=/dev/sda10 resume=/dev/sda8
splash=silent showopts vga=0x317"
and then added one line using 'o' option
'initrd /initrd-2.6.25.5-1.1-pae'

and was able to boot into open suse 11

[Ilugc] Adding entry to grub boot loader

2009-04-02 Thread Suresh Kumar
hello friends
i have a problem in adding the suse linux boot entry which was over
written by ubuntu
intially i had win xp and then i installed open Suse 11
the grub was able to configure windows and suse 11,
then i installed ubuntu 8.10 while installing , grub detected only windows

now i want to add an entry in the Ubuntu bootloader to show Suse 11 in the
boot option

my hard disk partion table is as below

/dev/sda1 * 13187255995467 HPFS/NTFS
/dev/sda23188 17680 116415022+ f W95 Ext'd (LBA)
/dev/sda53188449310490413+ c W95 FAT32 (LBA)

Suse 11

/dev/sda644944506 104391 83 Linux /boot
/dev/sda74507581210490413+ 83 Linux
/dev/sda858135995 1469916 82 Linux swap / Solaris
/dev/sda95996730110490413+ 83 Linux
/dev/sda10 7302 1121831463271 83 Linux / (root
partition)
/dev/sda11 11219 1644041945683+ 83 Linux

ubuntu 8.10

/dev/sda12 16441 16464 192748+ 83 Linux
/dev/sda13 16465 17680 9767488+ 83 Linux

i tried mounting the suse's /boot partition /dev/sda6
and found this in the 'menu.lst' for the suse grub

title openSUSE 11.0 - 2.6.25.5-1.1
root (hd0,5)
kernel /vmlinuz-2.6.25.5-1.1-pae
root=/dev/disk/by-id/scsi-SATA_ST3160215AS_9RA7XBPA-part10 resume=/dev/sda8
splash=silent showopts vga=0x317
initrd /initrd-2.6.25.5-1.1-pae

and currently the grub/ of the ubuntu has...

title Ubuntu 8.10, kernel 2.6.27-7-server
uuid0f6bed9c-7fc9-4e35-8295-61c41a634d8a
kernel /vmlinuz-2.6.27-7-server
root=UUID=fb769d04-3859-46f3-a111-8b67bd3c1ada ro quiet splash
initrd /initrd.img-2.6.27-7-server

for windows
# on /dev/sda1
title Microsoft Windows XP Professional
root(hd0,0)
savedefault
makeactive
chainloader +1

how can i add an entry to the ubuntu grub so that it shows the booting
option for selecting the suse 11 also

[Ilugc] mail locking services

2008-11-10 Thread Suresh Kumar
hi friends,

i want to develop a mail box application, its functionality is like this

we need allow users to create, login and manage their own mail accounts
and to manage mail accounts (inbox, address book, compose, sent mails ..etc
) based upon their user logins.
The main functionality i want here is, when a user logs in and opens a mail
, it should have a status set as "locked " and released after 90 mins ,
(and if any other user logs in to the same account in between the lockin
period, then this particular mail should not be accessible to that user )

is there any open source application or services .. so that we can use to
build this application.
using database (mysql) & PHP and Linux server
