Hi All,

I am using feedly to collate my rss feeds and provide it as a dashboard.
For some reason part of the tamil content(headings) is not showing up
correctly. Has anyone encountered the same problem ? Is there a fix ?

I notice that there are some font installers available but I am not sure if
font is the real problem as I see partial content its only the heading
which is missing.

Here are few things that comes to my mind.

1. Make sure your sendmail works by sending some mail directly using
sendmail.

2. Is this linux ? in that case you can see if the local mail are recived,
if a local email is configured.

3. Using a gmail account in the from might cause problems or will send the
mail to your junk folder. Try changing it.

4. Enable log "mail.log" and see what it has to say.

Siva.

[Ilugc] Fwd: [ILUG-BOM] Interview of Linus Torvalds; He Also Speaks Of Sad Situation Of India

2011-11-02 Thread Version Control Buddy
India is kind of somewhat a sad situation. Compared to the amount of
educated people, I think India is fairly low on the list compared to
what it could be. Culturally it should be fairly easy, because
language barriers should not be there. If you are educated in India,
you know English even if it is not your first language. So India
actually should have an easier time being involved in some of the
discussions. Don't get me wrong, there are developers, but just not as
many as I would expect. And I don't know quite why.

There is a fair amount of really enthusiastic local LUGs and I get to
hear about them. But, at the same time I don't know India, you know
much better. My gut feeling is that a lot of the actual professional
developers in India see software development as a job and not as a
hobby. That's the kind of picture I've gotten, I don't know if it's
true. If you see it [software development] as a job and not as a hobby
the whole open source thing is not as natural anymore.

You can try traceroute/tracepath command which will tell you the path
in which your
requests traverse(different routers and computers). The first computer the
request will be your local router. From there it will be passed on to different
computers. This way you will be able to find where exactly your request is
getting dropped.

if the command is missing in your distribution you might have to installing
it with your package manager like yum or apt-get. In this case if you
can tell your
distribution. I can guide you appropriately.

As most of the responses so far are with RHEL, let me try put plus of
SUSE here.

- As mentioned before both uses RPM internally. SUSE comes with yast
and zypper. I have felt that zypper has more and better commandline
options than yum. For things I had to modify the yum.conf, zypper had
some commandline options.
- SUSE always tries stays with the latest packages. However RHEL does
not. one can argue latest means it may not still be robust enough yet.
In my cases I always wanted my apache to be latest with all security
updates. If I try the same in RHEL, i have ended up with wired
problems.
- The GUI package manager is much better than RHEL.

- What kind of customisations are they single file, multiple files
scattered, one folder ?
- Can the customisations be separated from the base code by any
chance? If you can split your project into modules and if you can make
the core modules separate from customizations. Then you can have the
customizations for each club in a separate modules and checkout the
required modules as needed.
- You can also explore the possibility to create a customisations
patch and apply it after every checkout ? (may be the patch file can
be part of the repo)

I( and my wife) did the same and we like the fact that duckduckgo tries
to understand what is the users need for a given search term. And futher it
does not have any other app or any ads which tracks me on the web!!.

PS: I was quite impressed when i gave the the search term "fedex "

On CGI terms this error would occur if the script trys to write
anything to stderr. If
possible try running the script from command line and validate its output.

Just thought of asking if you have a solution for a similar problem I
face. I use
a extended monitor at my workplace(monitor as the only display screen). When
I suspend the laptop and power it on without the monitor it gives a
blank screen. I
have to type the password blind folded and everything will appear in
the latop screen.

To avoid this I make sure laptop screen is the only screen used before
suspending
it. Has anyone faced this problem ? Is there a better solution for this ?

The above means its not able to load libdistcache.so.1, can you check
if this lib is available in your box ?

If you can tell how you installed apache/httpd and the distribution you
are using, it would be of use to tell you how to debug further

did you try nagios ? I have not tried it personally but have heard its

Check this nagios report from apache, http://monitoring.apache.org/status/

Also check hyperic, which is not mentioned in the above link.

I think grub is upgraded to 2.0 in ubuntu 9.x, which could be the
cause. Try installing grub again using the live CD.
