The trouble is that in our culture, when we criticise the question many
people take it personally. Well, if a person takes such criticism
personally, he is not going to go very far in the foss world.

Redhat wont support Centos but you can easily migrate from CentOS to RHEL

Re: [Ilugc] Regarding Reverse Shell.

2010-08-29 Thread Yuva raj
   Can anybody please brief me about Reverse shell?  (When I am googling;
  it’s
   confusing me instead to help.)
   1. What is reverse shell?

connecting in a reverse way than normal is called reverse shell.
while installing trojan , server part will be installed on victims computer
and client will be installed in cracker machine(Traditional Client Server
way way ).
in the above method if the client is behind nat or firewall its tough to
make a connection.
The client will open a port and listen for the connection from cracker. a
simple netsat -n will reveal that and those connections can easily blocked
by firewall and routers .

Lets Come to Reverse Shell.
In this method server will be installed on cracker machine and client will
be installed on the victim machine. once the the client installed it will
try to communicate with the crackers machine server and opens an session.
Reverse shell is less reliable than the traditional way but it will blasts
away most of the firewall and NAT .

Reverse shell is boon to crackers ;)

  2. Is it mostly used for hacking rather pentest?

according to me if you only hack then only you are a penetration tester.

   3. how to identify / what are the precautions we need to take? (From
 the
   system administration perspective.)

Path and upgrade you application and OS . install an IDS .

   Thanks.

Re: [Ilugc] Linux certification

2009-12-15 Thread Yuva raj
@Subhojit
You just posted my thoughts in my mind.

People without certification always criticize the people with certification(
Do you know why? because they are scared of taking up the exam and Majority
of the people are not certified . Majority won blindly. ).
According to me anyone can configure a squid or apache . do you think the
howto's available in the internet is not enough to configure those servers.
?

The recruiter should understand and look freshers with certification in a
positive way . we are not trying to prove that we are well stuffed than the
realtime experience people. we are trying to show that we have interest in
that field. We are ready to groom ourself in that field. Atleast you people
should respect RHCE . It is a performance based one.
why dont you people give an system to the candidate ask him to configure
some server are what ever tasks. An RHCE student will willingly take up than
people with 1 yr experience . Because those people never configured servers
without documentation . we configured 6 to 7 servers and 13 tasks within 3
and half hours ( without documentation that too under time and money
pressure ).

here is the reply for all the recruiters and interview panel guys
1) Just think what type of question you are asking to the student ? you
people are asking questions what you know. To achieve an task there are 100
of ways and 100 of commands . Stop asking about commands and their flags .
just try to find how much the candidate is interested in this field and how
much he is up to date in the filed. If you really want good student go for
performance based interview. Ask questions concept based like what is NAT?
or how will you implement NAT in linux? Dont expect the exact command with
flags and arguments (It shows stupidity). Because we are not going to
dictate commands and flags to the system.

A request to all the students taking up certification. Go for certification
,surely you will be respected if you are good in your curriculum .Practice
as much as possible. Smart work with Hard work always pays . Always respect
your certification. If you respect your certification automatically you will
start studying more about your certification curriculum . One day you will
achieve :)

If you feel my tone is aggressive sorry for that.

even i have seen many people who is experienced but doesn't have that much
knowledge.freshers are force to write certification exam not by their
will but for getting job.no body like to spend money for certificate,
but during interview they have to compete the people

even i m also against these certification, i m also a fresher and have done
RHCE, after completing my certification i didn't find that my knowledge
 have
increased in one day, i m studying Linux every day, finding the real time
problems from ILUGC and then trying to implement it and finding the
solution, linux is like that until u will not face problem, u cannot learn
it properly or cannot understand why the problem has occur

Linux is very vast, a fresher doesn't know from where to start and few
people r there to help them in learning linux, doing free lancing is not
easy for everyone. My suggestion is that people should have to learn by
their own interest and the companies those who r providing certificate in
linux, should have to provide a good text, which should contain a brief
explanation and shouldn't make the certification as business..

I also request ILUGC to come forward and to talk with universities, college
and also diploma colleges to go with open source.I also request
knowledgeable person to come to forward to provide at least one day seminar
 in diploma and engineering colleges..

The problem is that many colleges doesn't have good staff to guide them, so
many students are loosing their interest and many doesn't know abt open
 source...

Even though 2nd guy has knowledge on wide range of topics.

 URL
redirect is possible from the html page, but i want did it from DNS itself.

when i did the abow it was point correctly, but the domain abc.com MX was
pointed to abc.net MX. due to that mails are start bouncing so that i have

are you talking about application server or web server?

Java based application can be used application server - tomcat, jboss,
 websphere

If its to just serve web pages - apache httpd, iis and others etc.

which web server is good to use? you can find out by doing benchmarking
 your
application response against each of the server i mentioned above.

how to make application fast -

 1. caching should page. cache pages, queries, images, chart images.
 2. reduce no. of request to application server from you application after
 it
 reachs the browser.
