I am currently using Dell studio 1537, which has Intel HDA with IDT 92HD73C1X5 codec chip. I am able to get 5.1 surround in Windows 7 using the IDT driver. But couldn't configure it in Ubuntu. This is a clumsy and often unworkable solution. 1. It has to be done on each individual client machine using the squid proxy. 2. It has to be constantly updated on each machine. 3. And every browser on said client machine must be configured NOT TO use the proxy for such banned domains. Very clumsy. There has to be a more elegant way. ...KRS Its not necessary to do it in individual machines if you block direct access to DNS servers. Only in squid machine its enough to put this configuration. If even after installing that if it shows error about missing dll then, manually download those dll from *Internet* and paste *wine C_drive/windows/system* to open this location use the wine menu. or it will be in *~/.wine* location. Yes. Have you tried ibus? yum install ibus. There is also a tamil typing booster available. I did try installing ibus and the booster packages for tamil. But, I couldn't find the Tamil keyboard layout even then. All I did notice as the keyboard layouts were 1. Tamil2. Tamil keyboard with numerals3. Tamil (Srilanka, TAB typewriter)4. Tamil (Srilanka, UNICODE)5. Tamil (Tab typewriter)6. Tamil (TSCII typewriter)7. Tamil (UNICODE) But, none of them seem to support phonetic typing. Am I missing out somewhere ? Change the keyboard Input method to ibus. Or start ibus-daemon directly using Alt+F2. Then right click on i bus icon in notification area, go to preference you will find few of languages expand drop-down list. Then choose tamil phonetic. Then add it. While clicking in text box press Ctrl+space to enable the chosen phonetic. Now it should work. note: ibus-m17n will enable Tamil support. Have a great day! Try it after disabling all Firefox extensions and plugins you have. If that solves the issue, re-enable the extensions and plugins one by one and test it again till you eventually identify the extension/plugin that causes the problem. If you experience the issue even with no extensions/plugins enabled, then perhaps, a complete uninstall and re-install might help. I am using ubuntu 11.10, recently i upgraded to firefox 8. Now whenever a dialogue box appears it has no action. No message is displayed. For example when i click delete all spam messages in gmail, a dialogue box with ok and cancel appears. Clicking anything is not at all possible. Like many other things in Gnome, the information is stored in gconf. Use `gconf-editor` and look under `/apps/gnome-power-manager/thresholds`. You might also consider looking at the `use_time_for_policy` key in `/apps/gnome-power-manager/thresholds` if you decide to use percentage instead of time to judge when to do things. Ubuntu 11.10 (which the OP is using) is using Gnome 3 -- gnome apps have migrated from gconf to Gsettings (with dconf backend). The dconf backend is binary, so you won't be able to directly change it from a text editor. If you have dconf-editor installed, navigate to org - gnome - settings-daemon - plugins - power in the left pane and you can edit the power configuration in the right pane. Alternatively, you can also use gsettings from the command line. gsettings list-recursively org.gnome.settings-daemon.plugins.power will list all the keys and their values under this schema. If you want to change a value of a key, say percentage-critical : gsettings set org.gnome.settings-daemon.plugins.power percentage-critical 10 Thank you very much Mr.Kumaraguru. Wait, did something change? I have an ATI 4670. The open-source driver for this card is 'radeonhd' and I suspect the same driver is used for similar cards. AFAIK, Nouveau is for Nvidia cards. When i was using Gnome2, everything was fine. The driver is producing trouble with gnome3 only.
