Especially if you want a graphical application to run you would need a hell lot of applications to run on the main kernel but you can definitely build one for your own purpose . If you are building for a specific hardware you can also reduce the size of the final distribution . Maybe you want to build something like a router software (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OpenWrt ) which does very simple tasks and is based on linux kernel ? Do you have any guide in building a new distro like this. Say for example, let me install base debian system and install all the required prerequisite and the my application. Let it be a prototype and i want to build a iso with the same setup. Hi, I need to build a small os kernal which can run only one application. Say for example eclipse. If you have any guide for achieving this. Please do let me know. I am planning it to start with ubuntu minimal cd or probably arch os. First of all kernel does not run any application. Moreover you cannot build a single app appliance without substantial knowledge. It is better to go ahead along your own thinking and approach which seems to be a workable solution. But it would then not be a single application OS, it is an appliance/OS with focus on only one purpose.
