A framework is essential I agree. But it will be better if we actually
decide a project. A framework is like the silhouette.. The project breathes
life into it!

Alright :) So I assume you'd also like to explore the Catalyst
framework[1] for Perl and YUI[2] :)

[Ilugc] RE: requirement for Open Source Web Designer, Web Developer in open web group

2008-05-19 Thread Ravi Jaya
Dear Luggies,

This is an invitation for open source web developers and open source web
designer to join open web group a non formal team of web developers.

The objective of open web group is develop mission critical applications
like web interface for controlling satellites, Interface for controlling
Nuclear Reactors. Controlling UAV and AI. Is it interesting?

no am kidding, thats not our area :)

whole idea behind open web group is to develop simple and sophisticated
web applications that one could make use it in his day to day life.

if you have these... { willingness )

a, contribute to FOSS community
b, to learn new things
c, to work as team or single with minimal or no supervision
d, to feel coding as enjoy
e, working towards tight time line

hey, do u think you possess all of these, yes than please forward me your
profile.

It is very much opened for student community, to make themselves a
contributors for the society ,

*little knowledge about web technologies, server side script could be added
advantage. We need more Contributors.

Technical Skills
PHP
MYSQL
Ruby on Rails
Postgre SQL
Javascript
prototype
jquery

by the people for the people

/** whole idea behind open web group is to develop simple and

Is it for commercial or for Non-Profit?

/** It is very much opened for student community, to make themselves a
contributors for the society , **/

Some of the students i know dont have knowledge on PHP or MySQL.. But they
want to learn some thing.. Can i refer them..

Basically, i feel this is a fantastic idea.. If we could conceptualise some
theme, and start working on it, we can establish our own FOSS software.

apart from that, we can also direct students to contribute to NGO's to
manage their tasks. I did a small project for an NGO called chirag, within
my organisation, so that they could organize gift collection easily through
online. Now they are requesting me to help them to enable this feature in
their website.
[[ I would be glad to explain more on this, for implementation in other
corporates too.. ]]

If any of the students are interested, i would be able to guide them to help
this NGO. Technical requirements are: PHP, MySQL, and knowledge on AJAX.

If we could match the requirements and the volunteers, a lot of benefits
will happen to both the contributors and the NGO's.

Regards,
Senthil Raja

Re: [Ilugc] RE: requirement for Open Source Web Designer, Web Developer in open web group

2008-05-19 Thread Ravi Jaya
Is there any website or colloboration tool for open web group? Sure.. i

yes we are going to have one shortly

have a couple of such issues that i am facing currently.. one is
implementing SSO in Windows Network for websites hosted in linux..
currently i am trying out mod_auth_kerb module for this. Yet to get the
 result..

Btw, we need to generate the resource pool for this.. I hope we could find
it from this ILUG Community itself..

yes you are correct

Another issue that i came across was in writing out documentation.. When i
explained about the importance of documentation to my relative students,
 the
first thing they told was I am not well in english.. I told them,
documentation is only for recording what we know.. you can very well write
in tamil itself.. if needed, later on we can translate in to english..

This is new experience to me, and i wish, we can try developing a small
application by documenting in tamil, (like requirement listing, design
 etc)..

language should not be an issue to expression our ideas

cheers
