[Ilugc] Unable to install You tube downloader
Hi All I run Debian 5.0 in a dual boot machine. When I ran apt-get install youtube-dl as root, it says could not find package youtube-dl. I saw in Synaptic package manager, metacafe-dl. That installed without any problem. What could be the problem? Will the youtube-dl install only in DEbian 6.0? Please help out. It fetches all the videos, not only videos from youtube. I hope Firefox runs in Debian without any problem :) -- Regards, Prasanna Venkadesh PuduvaiLUG (puduvai Linux Users Group): http://puduvailug.wordpress.com/ FOSS Jobs all over India: http://fossjobs.in ___ ILUGC Mailing List: http://www.ae.iitm.ac.in/mailman/listinfo/ilugc

But youtube-dl is just a single python script that you can download from http://rg3.github.com/youtube-dl/download.html Here's the direct link for the latest version, if you want to wget it: https://github.com/rg3/youtube-dl/raw/2011.09.30/youtube-dl Will the youtube-dl install only in DEbian 6.0? Python 2.5+ is the only requirement for youtube-dl and it should work everywhere Python 2.5+ is installed including Debian 5 (or even Windows for that matter). That's fine except for the fact he would not be able to schedule an automated downloading from a shell script or chain it with other command line tools.
