Re: [Ilugc] Webcam and Wifi in DELL laptop working with ubuntu 8.04 hardy heron
you can download the non-free driver from the broadcom site here : http://www.broadcom.com/support/802.11/linux_sta.php download the driver for your appropriate architecture ( 32bit or 64 bit) and compile it. I confirmed that the wireless card for which the driver I installed is the same as the one on your laptop which you are trying. Ask me if there are any further problems . Re: [Ilugc] Webcam and Wifi in DELL laptop working with ubuntu 8.04 hardy heron
Ndiswrapper should be the last choice there are non-free wireless drivers available for broadcom...I got broadcom wireless network cards work in "fedora 9" by installing "broadcom-wl" package from rpmfusion-nonfree repository... But I don't know about ubuntu...Good luck On Wed, Feb 11, 2009 at 11:21 PM, Akarsh Simha wrote: > > What wireless card ? Re: [Ilugc] Webcam and Wifi in DELL laptop working with ubuntu 8.04 hardy heron
I am not sure if the same would work . But I set up the wireless card ( some broadcom variant ) in a Dell Vostro 1510 without using NDISWRAPPER. I downloaded the drivers from the broadcomm site and then compiled them and installed the module using insmod. Then added a modprobe command to rc.local so that the module is loaded everytime you reboot. This works fine now. I had found the solution for the same from some article on the internet, I don't remember the link so try searching for it. > What wireless card ? Can you post the output of sudo lspci -v here ? I have a Dell Inspiron 1525 n-Series laptop (Yes, one of those few laptops in the market which come without Winblows installed). The wireless card is a Broadcomm 43xx and the corresponding kernel module is bcm43xx. When I last attempted to get my network card working, the module wouldn't bind to the device for some reason. However, my friends have got these working, although I don't know what he did. Some quick google results: http://www.google.com/search?q=bcm43xx+wireless+howto&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8 They all seem to suggest NDIS wrapper, although there is an alternative native module.
