Fully agree. I would even venture to claim that this is the quality that

well, all he has been trying to do is to get some among us use OpenBSD.

some times u promote by saying your positive side & at times you decide
to promote by demoting others, like most producers do. It happens.

If that happens, it will give him enormous satisfaction & other things
will get reduced. He should also seriously consider giving career option
to few.

When people see there is a chance of living with OpenBSD, then the count
tickles.

I will try OpenBSD this week & write about it in Kaniyam :-)

he is not a troll - he is very talented, but is unable to distinguish
between opinion and fact. A troll has the main purpose to create flames
- since he ignores any attempt to flame him he is obviously not a troll.

+1. I have learnt a few thing from his emails. Though it is true that
he mixes opinions and technology, at least we get to know things. So,
as readers, we can filter out 'opinion' and just take the technology
part.

True :) That's one virtue that we need a lot. Thanks

I'm one of those who has rapped Girish for some trolling comments. I think
folks can learn the art of sieving and culling the good part of his emails.

Well, if many people in the list feel the same way, why don't we do
something to maintain the sanity of the list? The senior members or the
list owner should decide how to do this, I guess.

+1 The diatribe under today's "Different UNIX variants" was a bit much.

+1 Perhaps that is the intent :(
Hopefully the beginners have the good sense to verify such information
from another independent source.

One of the replies in today's ""Different UNIX variants" certainly
came across like trolling to me.

But I'm really worried that beginners shouldn't be misled by his subjective
views. I keep replying to his mails whenever I feel something is absurd and
I'm clear about the topic.

Anyway, as he doesn't respond to any of the replies, I'm afraid people may
stop replying and ignore such mails. Because when that happens, the
beginners would be clueless of what is right and what is wrong among his
statements.

Can this be considered trolling?

I think, Girish started these emails with a [TIP] tag in the subject, to
share some of what he has learnt with the list, which is great. Now that
the [TIP] tag has disappeared, his emails remain. Although, IMO,
recently his emails deviate in part from a technical viewpoint to a
subjective viewpoint, which invariable brings in other members to the
discussion.

I hope, there are beginners in the list who benefit from his emails and
the following discussions.

[Ilugc] Why these emails, Girish? (Was Re: the vi editor)

2012-06-13 Thread Sriram Karra
I took a long-ish break from this list and returned only recently, partly
because it is fascinating to note that while Linux User Group lists around
the country are more or less disappeared, ilugc marches on, and perhaps
even gaining in strength by some measure.

One of the interesting things about this list is this series of
monologue-mode gyaan mails from Girish. I wonder if there is some history
behind these, etc. Or does the list serve as a brain dump area for the
current 'regulars'. Just curious, nothing else.
