The ubuntu 10.04 install dvd + 8 packages dvd is ready to send to your
college address.
We can provide the free software media and repositories free of cost only
for
institutions and not for individuals. So, better inform this to your HOD
and try to
collect from them.

Will send the above dvd's to college address after getting reply from you.

Yes, making the people aware of the history is important. If they understand
the noble cause behind Free Software Movement they will really enjoy not
only using Free Software but also making more people aware of it.
However, some people may not be interested in listening to history. As the
audience are your friends, most probably you will have an idea about their
interests. Make sure that it is interesting :-)
As Arulalan said, Compiz effects would be very helpful to grab the attention
of beginners.
All the best! :)

In ubuntu, you have to show the compiz effects (Advanced Graphics Effects).

So that, you can get more attraction from the viewers (friends).

I totally agree with Guru. It is better to use FOSS (Free & OpenSource
Software) rather than just telling OpenSource.

You can also present the history of FOSS, how it started, what the term means.

Imho, Free(Libre) Open Source Software would be a better term to use
than Open Source. You could try demonstrating how easily you can do
the day-to-day regular activities using a Free Software distro. That
could be very useful.
