a tool 'csv2vcard' is supplied with the redhat 9 distribution which can
convert your csv file to a

the source of csv2vcard can also be retreived from sourceforge.net

thanks abhiram, though i already got it working.

i almust share with all how i got it working, and a *potential disaster*
you must watch out for:

1) save emails in *.csv format.
2) use mozilla under windoze, import the *.csv. and export as *.ldif.
3) boot into linux.
4)import *.ldif into evolution.

so what's the catch?
there is NO EXPORT feature in evolution ouch! how the heck am i
supposed to export my contact database outta evolution, even if i
upgrade to a new version, or out of sensibility, do a fresh installation

anyone has clues to this?

Hi Anuj
This month we have included Bhavya OS instead of LiFY on popular demand of
readers to get taste of other Linux Distro . We have got some reports of
the CD not working properly on few PC's . On further inspection we got the
followig reponse from Bhavya Soft please send the problems faced by you
directly to them

We have identified that the /preinit occurs
only with LG CD-Rom Drives, LG-CDRoms do not seem to
support mount() system call( used by slash shell to
mount the BhavyaOS CD), as it is with the RedHat
Kernel, This has been tested and failed with the
RedHat nash shell also, we are thus shortly making
available a new binitrd.gz and binstall.gz on our site
which have a seperate static mount utility to acheive
this, with regards to troubles starting X-Server in
some win 98 installations, this is due to the
preloading of heavy windows drivers as windows starts,
we recommending using Safe mode DOS prompt and run
bhavya.bat( bhavya.bat be edited to remove vga=0x315
and hda=scsi) . Kindly redirect any complaints to the
link below.
http://www.freewebs.com/bhavyasoft/contact.html

Kindly ask the users to give the hardware details
along with the last few lines of the error
encountered.

we hope this would solve the problem some of you are facing

Get a copy of mozilla mail client for windows. Import mailbox and

Mozilla stores mail as mbox format, which is native to most

[ilugd] google versus msn search on linux

2003-11-17 Thread LinuxLingam
[0]Harry Fletcher writes in [1] The Inquirer about an
obvious discrepancy between searches for linux windows on
[2]Google
and [3]MSN; the former comes up with [4]almost 9 million hits, but
the

[ilugd] nfs rpc errors

2003-11-17 Thread LinuxLingam
the problem on my pc:
redhat 8, portmapper is up, nfs is up and running
/etc/exports has the directory i wanna export
showmount -e [localhost ip] shows the above directories.

for good measure:
1 ipchains disabled
2 iptables disabled (!)
3 network-security disabled (lokkit)
4) ip6tables disabled

double-checked everything with the chkconfig -L commands,

all the related nfs daemons are up.
the remote client is pinging fine.

*even then* i can't get the remote client (my trusty ol' PII) to mount
the exported directory to a local directory.
the syntax for mount is correct, double-checked that too.

the remote client is h7.3, where i have disabled lokkit, disabled
ipchains, iptables, et al.

all this obviously on an isolated ethernet lan.

have also tried vice-versa, trying to get the remote client to become a
server and log into this pc.

either ways, the error is:
'port mapper failure - RPC: Timed Out'

another time
'mount clntudp_create: RPC: Port mapper timed out'

or
'failure -RPC: Timed Out'

have even done nfs restarts.

tried this between two redhat8 installations as well.

what the heck could be wrong?

yes, i've even done lsmod -r commands.

done nmap to check the sunrpc port is open.

read through setting up ipchains and iptables.
decided iptables the way to go (once i get the nfs working with no
firewalls whatsoever. but that's the next phase).
also ensured firestarter is off.

the only thing that i suspect is that despite all these things off,
the lsmod |grep ip command
shows a lot of iptable thingies, some autoclean, some unused, one or two
with some sequences of commands.

googling till i was yoodling.

please help. how do i get nfs to work and share directories?

TIA.

??

Lot of rot, actually. Go to msn.com. Select Advanced Search. enter
[linux windows] (without the [brackets]) and select Find: all the
words. Click on Search:

Results 1-15 of about 8975320 containing linux windows

The search the author of that article made is for the STRING linux
windows (as opposed to the WORDS linux and windows). If you search
for that string in Google you get some 1M results, not 9M as the
author claims. OK, you still get more than the 16 at MSN, but that's
because MSN returns exactly ``linux windows'' while Google returns
``linux windows'', ``linux, windows'', ``linux+windows'',
``linux-windows'', etc.

Let's not just give the dog a bad name and hang him.
