We also decided at the previous meet that we shall have a meet with

Programming on Linux
The meet is intended not only for the budding linux developers but also for
the advanced desktop users who may wish to automate things.
We need a venue for next Month's meet.
As usual: Suggestions, Flames welcome.
The meet is planned for 22nd Feb.

Kudos for your endeavour, but this is the wrong list to ask, guys. :) We
can try to help you solve your knoppix problem though. What is your
hardware?

RE: [ilugd] Firewall implimentation

2004-01-22 Thread Gurpreet Singh Sachdeva
Hi Dheerendar,

   How are you doing??
For configuring a firewall in Linux Machine, iptables is the best
option. Iptables restrict the flow of incoming and outgoing packets on
the base of policies you make. The policies are considered from top to
bottom.

For making policies using iptables, man iptables is the best resource
but you can also refer to http://www.faqs.org/docs/iptables/

Please don't forget to issue iptables-save command in the end and
restarting the iptables daemon.

Do let me know if you face any problem in doing that.

Warm Regards,

 Gurpreet Singh Sachdeva

Fetchmail sucks. get getmail. getmail can directly deliver to maildirs
(qmail format).

I love the PLC combination.

I couldnot check on the different alternatives to VMware, as suggested by
 you all on the list.
can any body tell which one amongst all is nearest to VMWare.
I have been using VMware in my office, but for my home I would like to use
something which is similar to VMWare - allows me to install any OS
(Linux/Windows as guest/host and vice versa )into the virtual machine
provided by the software and the software is least demanding as I have
Pentium 233 MHz with 128 mb ram.

[ilugd] email encryption and Indian IT laws.

2004-01-22 Thread amit soni
Hi All,

I am considering GnuPG implementation as a standard for all my email
communication.

Is any one aware of any restrictions that might apply to me, in India?
Or any software embargos or unsaid rules?
Anything specific that I should be aware of ?

I heard from someone that even though its not illegal, but the govt might
want to specifically pick on those people who are using encryption in
emails, and if it decides to pick, then the current IT laws are extremly
troublesome.
