We need to decide the main theme/topic for June Meet.
The monthly meet is usually held on 3rd Sunday of every month.
We intend to have 3 to 5 talks of 40 minutes each.
Majority the talks should be based on the topic of the meet.
Please suggest a theme and also try to suggest talk topics related to the
 theme.

[ilugd] Infrastructure for ILUGD

 2. Buy a couple of Wifi Cards and an Access Point for use in
the future Wifi Enabled ILUGD meetings.(Yes we would be the
first ILUG in India if we do that)

The Wifi cards and the access point I could probably sponsor. The
problem always is the gateway. How do we connect our ILUGD net to the
Internet? It is better if the WLAN infrastructure is built into the
meet venue.

 3. Buy cordless collar mike and 'surround' sound system for the
benefit of low volume speakers ( we have too many of them as
 well )

Ditto, as above. If we buy one, where will we keep it? Suppose Raju
is not coming to the meet? Or is late? Better to find a venue with
this available.

There has long been talk on an Indian mirror. Frankly, I am not sure
what benefits this gives, if Akshay and Yashpal are willing to
distribute CDs. Most software is downloaded only once, and the
bandwidth of a CD-by-post beats any bandwidth I could reasonably put
on a server.

Would a bittorrent server help? Then, users could help other users,
and the load on the server would be low. Also, this would help by
preferring popular software over non-popular software.

Raj, I can put up a server in Delhi, accessible between 9pm and 7am,
and on Sundays all day. Would this help?

We can try to have it available at the venue by either
being brought by a regular member or having it brought by someone else if
the regular member is not coming to the meet. Just the same as the ILUGD
banner.
As a last resort the equipment can be located at eSys and someone from that
region can collect it before landing at the ILUGD-General Meet.

What I am suggesting is not a theme, but a general idea. Every month we
can have an App of the month. This can be about anything - emacs, K3B,
Firefox etc. The volunteer speaker will demo the install process,
configuring and tweaking the particular app and some special tricks.

To start the experiment, I can volunteer to give a demo of Mozilla
Thunderbird for the next meet.

What do you all say ? Is this idea workable ? Or do you want me to eat
flames ?

Heard about Festival? It is decent command line based text to speech
converter. On Fedora core 1 if you have installed festival simply use echo
Hello|festival --tts .

Re: [ilugd] Transparent Proxy

2004-05-25 Thread # Subodh #
hi !

i have set the ip forwarding by the command
echo 1 /proc/sys/net/ipv4/ip_forward
all the lines to be added in squid.conf are there...as normal squid is working fine.
the iptables command i have tried is
iptables -t nat -A PREROUTING -i eth0 -p tcp --dport 80 -j REDIRECT --to-port
8080

only thing is that at present all XP clients have been configured for XP ICS features
but once i change them for a proxy by giving gateway and port 8080 for proxy they work
fine. But then squid is not working in transparent mode. where am i at fault.

regards

 HI,

I don't think that you have to recompile the default kernel in RH 8.0 in
order for Transparent Proxy to work. Make sure IP Forwarding is enabled
and that you have the following lines in squid.conf

 httpd_accel_host virtual
 httpd_accel_port 80
 httpd_accel_with_proxy on
 httpd_accel_uses_host_header on

Allow access to hosts using the ACLS and using iptables make rules to
redirect tcp packets destined for port 80 to squid port on the host
where squid is running. Let me have your configuration details if its
 still not working.

is there no way to start squid as transparent proxy without recompiling kernel? i
am using RH 8.0 kernel 2.4-18.
