 Subject: MOZILLA 1.7 RELEASED
 From: Hannes Mayer
 Date: Fri, 18 Jun 2004 10:40:52 +0530
 Newsgroup: gmane.linux.redhat.fedora.general

 Hi all!

mozilla.org officially released version 1.7 this night:

 http://www.mozilla.org

Under new issues there is an interesting thing about FC2:

 http://www.mozilla.org/releases/mozilla1.7/README.html#new-issues

Users of Fedora Core 2 may experience unusually long delays in
resolving hostnames. This results from the fact that IPv6 is
enabled by default in Fedora Core 2. If you do not need IPv6
support (which is most likely the case), then it is advised that
you disable it in the kernel. To do this run the following command
as root: echo alias net-pf-10 off /etc/modprobe.conf
You will need to reboot to have this take effect (or simply unload
 the ipv6 kernel module).

 Cheers,
 Hannes.

vi there was an article in pcquest which had info on using a bluetooth
vi dongle with gnome 2.4 and kernel 2.6. it was
vi
vi CSR (Cambridge Silicon Radio) chipset based USB Bluetooth dongle and
vi configured it under PCQLinux 2004
vi
vi yu can check the same at
vi http://www.pcquest.com/content/search/showarticle.asp?artid=56058
vi

That article got nothing useful. Anyways, there are enough howto's on the net
relating to setting up bluetooth devices so it barely took me an hour of
apt-get and configuration stuff to do all the stuff I wanted to.

Well, the good news is that most of those benaami bluetooth USB dongles
(only ones you can get from nehru place) work on linux. Unless of course you
are too unlucky and end up buying one with a chipset that is not supported at
all under linux. but that is quite rare.

vi i've not used it myself, nor do i have any intentions at all to
install vi pcqlinux 2004, but if it works with pcqlinux then it should work
with vi any distribution with kernel 2.6 as it has built in bluetooth (and
afaik vi SigmaTel IrDA too) support. and if yu use gnome as well, then sone
 pe vi suhaga

vi
vi so, yu can use nautilus to transfer files :-) please do let me know
if vi anything works out for yu. i was not successful using SigmaTel
USB-IrDA vi dongle with kernel 2.4 inspite of adding stir4200.o module and
enabling vi IrDA. i used obex to transfer files, and when i tried to send
files from vi my nokia 6600 it did show the filename on the system but
 nothing vi happened :-(
vi
vi so, please please please let me know if yu are able to successfully
use vi the phone (6600), atleast to transfer files
vi

I bought a 100 mtrs range USB dongle for 1350 bucks. it was benaami, but
turned out to have CSR chipset.

[bhaskar!bhaskie:bt]# lsusb
Bus 001 Device 002: ID 0a12:0001 Cambridge Silicon Radio, Ltd

Plugged it in, compiled the bluetooth modules for the kernel, ran apt-get for
a few packages like obexserver, p3nfsd etc, downloaded ussp-push (for the
nokia 6600), and with half an hour, i could access the whole file-system of
my cellphone. Using konqueror, i can transfer files to and from the phone.

I am going to repeat the work on my gentoo system running gnome in a couple of
days.

Now I can listen to ogg files on the phone, use the phone to control xmms
(that's real neat), and finally, access the internet thru a bluetooth access
point on my box. putty is available for free, and so is agilemessenger, so
its quite a good experience.

- -rwr--    1 root     root       936596 Jun 18 07:20 Brown_eyed_girl.ogg

I modified a perl script to convert mp3's to oggs that play great on the nokia
6600. they are resampled at 16000 Hz and mono. anything better wont give
better output on the phone. The files are roughly around 1.2 MB, and they
sound quite ok on the mono headset!

I can write a howto if anyone is interested, but I think there are enough on
the net, so another one will be redundant. Let me know if you interested in
any details however.
