[ilugd] s5-FC released: Use one XHTML file to provide slide presentation on a web browser

2004-10-08 Thread Sandip Bhattacharya
From the man behind CSS - Eric Meyer.
Here is the demo:
http://www.meyerweb.com/eric/tools/s5/s5-intro.html
Here is the original announement:
http://www.meyerweb.com/eric/thoughts/2004/10/07/s5-final-candidate/
Summary:
# It's a Simple Standards-based Slide Show System
# One XHTML document provides all of the slide show's content
# CSS handles the layout and look of the slides
# JavaScript handles the dynamic aspects of the show

So are we seeing presentations using this in ILUGD meets from now on? ;)

See what is using port 25. A telnet would give some greeting msg.
Don't just post lame language questions and expect answers.

Try

lsof -i:25

[ilugd] Opening DMG Files

2004-10-08 Thread Nix Cix
Hi,

Is there a utility to convert a abc.dmg (apple disk image) file to a
Linux / Cygwin compatible format, say Tar.

Tried Google, looks there is only one utility called DMG2ISO, but the
website is inaccessible.

Um..

Am not sure if Mr. Srivastava realizes that posting
his email address (not TOO consequential), AND his
phone number on a public list is viable. All mails are
archived, and there are tons of people out there just
for these..

If anyone has to suggest phone numbers and/or other
contact information, which is directed to a particular
person, Please do it off the list.

Just a thought..

What:Linux Demo Day 2004 - LDD2K4
When:Sat, Sep 25, 2004 - 10:00AM
Where:Jamia Hamdard Archives Auditorium, Hamdard University, New Delhi 110062
(Adjacent to Batra Hospital. Entry from Gate 6)
Contact:Raju Mathur
Category:Upcoming/Recent Events

Registration: 9:30 am
Contact: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Entry: Free - all are invited

We are happy to announce and ask your participation at the Linux Demo Day organized by
India Linux Users Group, Delhi (ILUGD, www.linux-delhi.org).

If you've heard of it, but haven't tried it, Linux is a computer operating system
istinguished from other operating systems (such as Windows or Mac OS) by the fact that
it is avaliable freely for use and its source code is available to anyone, and anyone
can contribute improvements to the system. It, like Windows, supports a GUI (Graphic
User Interface) - meaning it's as easy to use, and less likely to crash.

We will be conducting Linux-related talks and presentations in the Hamdard Archives
Auditorium, on Saturday, 25th September, by some of our resident experts, and
hopefully they will interest people who've already taken the plunge as well as those
who are just about to.

There'll be lots of demonstrations/talks throughout the day and plenty of
opportunities to gain hands-on experience of different Linux distributions and
applications for yourself. There is space outside the auditorium, which will be used
for giving the demos. The demos and the talks will go on concurrently. We'll also be
distributing Linux goodies at low or no cost.

Remember, Linux Demo Day is not meant as The Inquisition for differing opinions, but
rather a day for diffusion of knowledge. Come be a part of the growing Linux
community

[ilugd] Linux Compatible Decent Internet

2004-10-08 Thread Arindam Dey
Hello All,

I have recently come back to Delhi and I am looking around for a
decent (preferably 128Kbps and above cable/dsl) internet connection in
my area (Sarita Vihar) which is totally compatible with Linux.

Anybody care to tell me whether I am dreaming or not ?

If it is not totally compatible I am willing to get my hands a little
dirty but not too much.

If there is such a thing as mentioned above then somebody please enlighten me.
