[ilugd] getting contents of files except first andlast few lines

2004-11-14 Thread Kapil Sethi
Hi All,
I have small problem. Using Oracle spool files, I am able to transfer
output of sql queries on to text files.

My problem starts when I need to merge and sort these files
Reason:
Oracle outputs a blank row (all spaces) then a row with field names, the
a row with dashes(-) then a blank row.

So the actual data comes after the first four lines.
And after the data comes a blank row( all spaces), number of rows
returned, and then a blank row.

How do I extract only the useful data, and leave out the top 4 and
botton 3 rows from the text file.

Please suggest
Kapil

I'd suggest that if you really need enterprise-grade systems, then go for
whitebox. Else, use fedora or debian. They aren't so bad. My experience with
RHEL 3 is not good. You dont get any pre-compiled packages and sometimes,
though you're running X, the configure script is unable to find it (as in the
case of icewm), you have to give the specific include and libs path. Some
things (even if you manage to get pre-compiled, arch independent) dont work
on RHEL (eg: zdoom). Whitebox is RHEL compatible if you really need RHEL.

PS.- I tried it at New Horizons, if you're wondering how I got it.

This is ridiculous. You would expect developers of wget to be able to code
*this* correctly.

This is true for windows apps
like IE, DAP also (not for flashget though) This is why you get constant
speeds in wget etc. If, on the other hand, hotwire indeed provided speed
bursts, you can check by going to www.speed-test.net and check the speeds
for different data sizes and see if they vary.
I dont think you understand the meaning of "burst" correctly. What you
check at websites like www.speed-test.net etc. is sustained download speed,
and not burst speed.

burst speed != sustained speed
Your ISP may not have configured for a significant burst speed, or you are
not using correct methods to test it.

[ilugd] Some display problem

2004-11-14 Thread mail
Dear Friends,
I have some time back installed redhat linux 9.0 on mine PC. But the resolution
of mine display was 800*640 so i tried to install a display driver. I found one
on net for SiS 530 .It was a 2.5 MB file i installed it. On that it was written
that it has been checked on redhat 5.2 and some other i do not remember that.
Now whenever i restart mine computer the normal window screen fails to appear
instead i am there with a login screen asking mine user name and pass. If i
wait for about 5 sec. than a new screen appears with yes or no on it in a box
of blue color (nothing else except the yes or no buttons). When i choose yes
than a new screen appears with a long text in it. Something like xfreeorg
written in it.Also some compatible devices written on it.Only one button 'Exit'
is in it. I press enter and again a screen with 'yes' and 'no' is displayed
with no other text in it. When i choose 'Yes' than login screen appears .

I think the problem started when i installed the new driver i tried to
uninstall using rpm -e driver file name than nothing happens.

Please tell me what to do i can reinstall the linux again but i want to keep it
as the last option. I tried mine best to explain what actually is the problem
but if you need more information do tell me what more information to provide.
Please help me,

Raj Mathur is absolutely correct, you get nearly consistent speeds at all
times, but the download manager/application reports incorrect speeds as the
file is begun downloading before it is timed. This is true for windows apps
like IE, DAP also (not for flashget though) This is why you get constant
speeds in wget etc. If, on the other hand, hotwire indeed provided speed
