Re: [ilugd] Optimum usage of my RAM
Why is swap being used when my RAM is free? How can i make my Linux use my RAM instead of swap, so i can utilize thats being left idle (remaining 100 megs of RAM). lookup discussions around /proc/sys/vm/swappiness (especially if you are using 2.6.x - the discussions will point you to similar handles for 2.4.x) ___ ilugd mailinglist -- ilugd@lists.linux-delhi.org http://frodo.hserus.net/mailman/listinfo/ilugd Archives at: http://news.gmane.org/gmane.user-groups.linux.delhi http://www.mail-archive.com/ilugd@lists.linux-delhi.org/
[ilugd] CVS related issue
Hi all, I have been using CVS for version control and for a particular repository I am able to grant read or write permissions to different users depending upon their CVS logins. But I wanna ask whether it is feasible to give different permissions to a particular cvs user for different modules within same repository. e.g. -I have one cvs repository rep1 .In rep1,I have two modules mod1 mod2. Now can I give read permission for mod1 write permission for mod2 to a particular cvs user A . CVS gurus please respond! I have read an article which said something similar, but nothing much changed. I tried decreasing swappiness to 10, but experienced little changes. hmmm...Maku can you elaborate how you got the job done??? I could do with some changes, even though they may be little. Another *drastic* soln. might be removing swap??? I have a question...what happens if I dont have swap space and i run out of ram? does the system hangs/locks or it waits for space to be emptied out? -- regards, makuchaku --- http://makuchaku.tk Linux... [ilugd] Update on lug-delhi.org companion site
Hi everyone! The unofficial ILUGD companion site lug-delhi.org has been reorganised. As you can see from http://www.lug-delhi.org, the site has a new look with three distinct sections: 1. The wiki based knowledge base where anybody can contribute. 2. The forums, which act as a web based gateway to the ILUGD mailing lists. 3. Member blogs where individual blogs of ILUGD members are aggregated and shown in one place. If you want your blog added to this list, do mail me. The home page shows the latest entries in each of these sections. Comments, feedback, brickbats welcome. Part of the credit for the new site design goes to my graphic designer friend, who calls himself Frank J. Wolf. :) All members whose blogs are presently setup are requested to send a face pic of theirs - maximum width 90 pixels, preferably PNG with transparent background. Take a look at my face in the blogs section to make out the kind of photo of yours that is needed. Thanks, Sandip P.S. Yes, the wiki and the forums still havent got a consistent theme, but I am working on it. -- Sandip Bhattacharya *Puroga Technologies * [EMAIL PROTECTED] Work: http://www.puroga.com * Home/Blog: http://www.sandipb.net/blog PGP/GPG Signature: 51A4 6C57 4BC6 8C82 6A65 AE78 B1A1 2280 A129 0FF3 ___ ilugd mailinglist -- ilugd@lists.linux-delhi.org http://frodo.hserus.net/mailman/listinfo/ilugd Archives at: http://news.gmane.org/gmane.user-groups.linux.delhi http://www.mail-archive.com/ilugd@lists.linux-delhi.org/

Just now, minutes before, I was emerging k3d (not k3b) on one tty, top was running on another i was logged into Gnome 2.10. emerging k3d took my load averages to nearly 19, after which my PC froze (god knows how high it would have went!). It returned back with a crashed X, i386-pc-linux-gnu-g++ reporting an internal error (ghosh!). My RAM usage went as high as 99%, with just about 2 megs free, SWAP was being used full 100% (i have almost 200 megs swap). at this point, i was not even able to switch tty's or login to any one of them. You see, something similar can happen if ur PC runs out of memory (grin) -- regards, makuchaku --- http://makuchaku.tk Linux... Life...
