Add 5222 to the SSL_Ports acl of the standard squid config file to allow
tunneling on this port. Is google talk on windows using the same squid proxy
server to connect outside?

[ilugd] Ubuntu CD from Freedel

2005-09-17 Thread vikram ranade
I just fired up the Ubuntu CD that was being distributed at the Freedel
event at PHDCCI today and it all seemed to be working great during the
install but then after the install was complete and I was anticipating a
nice shiney logon screen, I got a white screen
I figured...hey probably some xorg.conf messup.went into the console and
tried to login as root and then realized that while the setup had prompted
me to define a regular user profile.at no stage during the installation
process was I ever prompted for the root password!
so im stuck with a system with no Xand no way to edit xorg.conf
any clue what could have gone wrong?
Is there some default root passowrd that I need to know..?...or did i simpy
goof up somewhere and pressed enter twice? (blank root password does not
work so it could not have been something as simple as that).

Clueless..
Any help appreciated.
Thanks
Vikram Ranade

Yes, ubuntu doesnt believe creating a separate root user is worth the risk of
it being compromised.

You can get your work done in two ways:
1. Use 'sudo command' to run a command with root priviledges.
2. Use 'sudo su -' to get a root shell.

All users who are part of the admin group can get their work done similarly.

Wha? What the?

Doesn't 'sudo' ask for a root password? I got the following when I
tried running sudo:

We trust you have received the usual lecture from the local System

#1) Respect the privacy of others.
#2) Think before you type.
#3) With great power comes great responsibility.
