 Hi Manish
 You should really be using the netfilter extensions if you want to
 limit accesss based on time (though not by user logins but by IPs) by
 using the time patch. Check out patch-o-matic for your needs. Here is
 the URL pointing you probably to your needs:

ID: 200511-13

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Synopsis

Sylpheed and Sylpheed-Claws contain a buffer overflow vulnerability
which may lead to the execution of arbitrary code.

Background
==

Sylpheed is a lightweight email client and newsreader. Sylpheed-Claws
is a 'bleeding edge' version of Sylpheed. They both support the import
of address books in LDIF (Lightweight Directory Interchange Format).

Affected packages
=

---
 Package /  Vulnerable  /   Unaffected
---
  1  mail-client/sylpheed  2.0.4 = 2.0.4
  2  mail-client/sylpheed-claws  1.0.5-r1 = 1.0.5-r1
---
 2 affected packages on all of their supported architectures.
---

Description
===

Colin Leroy reported buffer overflow vulnerabilities in Sylpheed and
Sylpheed-Claws. The LDIF importer uses a fixed length buffer to store
data of variable length. Two similar problems exist also in the Mutt
and Pine addressbook importers of Sylpheed-Claws.

Impact
==

By convincing a user to import a specially-crafted LDIF file into the
address book, a remote attacker could cause the program to crash,
potentially allowing the execution of arbitrary code with the
privileges of the user running the software.

Workaround
==

There is no known workaround at this time.

Resolution
==

All Sylpheed users should upgrade to the latest version:

# emerge --sync
# emerge --ask --oneshot --verbose =mail-client/sylpheed-2.0.4

All Sylpheed-Claws users should upgrade to the latest version:

# emerge --sync
# emerge --ask --oneshot --verbose
=mail-client/sylpheed-claws-1.0.5-r1

Re: [ilugd] spam in qmail problem

2005-11-15 Thread Manoj Kumar Mishra
Hi,

There is various ways to stop spam on the qmail server.

You can use SpamAssassin, Install isoqlog to check which user sending how
much mails, and Use spam guard. Use SMTP authentication or POP over SMTP, so
that your server can't be used as open relay.

Manoj Kumar Mishra

[ilugd] Special Hindi characters not being rendered properly.

2005-11-15 Thread Abhay Kedia
Hello,

I have a Microsoft Multimedia Keyboard 1.0A and am trying to type in Hindi
in
OpenOffice under KDE 3.4.3. I am facing problems in typing special
characters
like sri and tra. Also as shown in devanagri keymap when I use number keys
with Shift key, I should get special characters but instead I get the
actual symbols that are drawn on keyboard (screenshots attached for
reference).

Since xorg does not support my keyboard, I am using an alternate keyboard
layout Microsoft Internet Keyboard. I have also tried using 104 keys
keyboard layout but that didn't help either. On the other hand, using Hindi

keyboard with traditional hindi layout on Windows XP works well in
OpenOffice
with all characters working smoothly.

Please help me and give me some ideas on how to go about solving this
problem.
Do I need to use some alternate keyboard model? Can I use Windows' keyboard
layout in Linux? Is it a problem with the layout of the keyboard model I
have
selected? I have searched but found nothing helpful. Any ideas will be
highly
appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Regards,
Abhay
