You can install the new bash, which has an option for timestamping
commands in the history. Version 3 if I recall correctly.

You can use sudo... and then this all gets logged via syslog..

[ilugd] logging admin activities?

2005-12-29 Thread Yashpal Nagar
Hi All,

We have 3 groups: sysadmin, dbadmin, appadmin in our linux hosting servers.
Is there anyway we can log the activities like, when a appadmin starts/stops
the startweblogic script it gets logged (in /var/log/messages or any other
log file) as appadmin doing this.

Similarly when a dbadmin starts/stops dbs gets logged somewhere with his/her
login id.

Defining the logs files in /etc/log.d/conf/logfiles/*.conf and
letting /etc/syslog.conf know, would be Ok or One need to have some other
efficient way of doing same.

Regards,
Yash
