Two things:
1. If you do thread hijacking and your subject has no relevance to
what you are wanting there is very little chance that you will get any
response.
2. It is possible still to recover (most of ?) data provided you do
not do any write operations on the disk. And read up on details of
file allocation/inode/partitioning. I know it is tall order but life
is always complicated.

I would say yes to all of above. It does nt matter what client is as
long as it follows IP protocols.

[ilugd] (fwd) [Full-disclosure] NSA tracking open source security tools

2006-02-04 Thread Raj Mathur

Subject: [Full-disclosure] NSA tracking open source security tools
Date: Sat, 4 Feb 2006 01:21:41 -0800

Of the recent U.S. political scandals, one of the most divisive is the
issue of President Bush (IMHO illegally) authorizing the NSA to
conduct warantless wiretaps on Americans' phone calls and emails.
While I don't like the NSA tracking my phone calls, they are welcome
to track Nmap release status. And apparently they are doing so :).
The latest (February 6) issue of Newsweek has a picture on page 39 of
George Bush visiting the NSA headquarters in Fort Meade. A wall-sized
screen in the background displays the latest versions of our favorite
open source security tools, including Nmap, Metasploit, Snort,
Ethereal, Cain & Abel, and Kismet. Nifty. For those
without the magazine, I have posted a pic at:

http://www.insecure.org/nmap/nmap_inthenews.html#bush

Maybe open source software really will take over the world :).

Cheers,
Fyodor

PS: For those who missed the announcement, Nmap 4.0 is now available:

/etc/resolv.conf file contains the ipaddresses of the dns servers you have
given while configuring the network card.

for example if you have any internal dns server 192.168.1.3 and your ISP dns
servers are 202.54.15.30, 202.56.230.5

then /etc/resolv.conf should be like this

nameserver 192.168.1.3
nameserver 202.54.15.30
nameserver 202.56.230.5

[ilugd] /etc/resolv.conf - whats this

2006-02-04 Thread mail
Dear Friends,
I on mine server was not able to resolve the domains,i mean simple command like
wget yahoo.com was not working. so i searched net and find that i should remove
the resolv.conf file so that domains will be resolved by named. So i did that
,and the problem solved.
I am not sure that,
1)Why did such a problem suddenly arisen.
2)Is resolving the domain names by named or removing the resolv.conf file the
best choice.

Pl. do let me know.
I shall be very grateful.

[ilugd] LinuxAsia 200x and Linux Delhi

2006-02-04 Thread Viksit Gaur
Fond memories at the mention of Linux Asia.. Was it
just a year and two ago that we had Smoke on the Water
playing till it hurt, and trying to get in to the wifi
networks?

Was it the time when the Linux Delhi stall was the
best thing which happened since sliced bread? And
statistics which really pointed to a higher number of
people at the LUG stall than the actual conference
itself? All of them couldn't have been the hanger-ons!

http://photobucket.com/albums/v463/viksit/?action=view¤t=DSC00028.jpg

Winter mornings and 6am watches on computers and other
equipment - late night dinners at defence (colony)
establishments (anyone heard from AshLin?) - and funky
after parties involving funny slashdot founders and
guitar playing hackers?

Demos of technologies which were to affect a number of
companies and people, and the entire bunch of
volunteers from across the city who helped out.. Demos
of awesome graphics and cool games, coupled with
T-Shirts featuring phenomenal captions.. Banners with
overtly dressed penguins, and intense discussions on
why samosas are bad for lunch..

So what if these things arent happening this year - no
one stands to lose out do they? Just because a
conference and its organizers (are asinine enough to)
refuse to accept or even acknowledge what is probably
one of the most active linux communities in the
country.. the spirit doesn't go away. Which is not to
say the conference won't benefit anyone. Sure it will.
Go attend it, and learn from it. Just keep in mind
that there are certain issues here which are
ideological and political in nature, rather than
realistic.

There will be more events - more banner designers,
more volunteers to get coffee, more wifi hacking,
guitar playing and parties, and more importantly,
(this is being cached by google), platforms which
showcase and mean a lot more to the community than a
conference which is so obviously .. er, commercial?
