Re: [ilugd] Data card support on linux
Dear All, Do you have any idea regarding support of datacard. I have TATA USB datacard. Is driver available for this? Step by step I have found that running tail -f /var/log/messages in a terminal tells you if the device is recognised and as what. Tata thingy is recognised as ttyACM0 while the Reliance old key was recognised as ttyUSB0 After this it is simple matter of configuring the dialer software kppp/wvdial/etc. with username password dialing number and init string. Personally on Ubuntu/debian I prefer pppconfig with pon and poff commands. Look up archives for init strings of various devices. -- Regards, Sudev Barar Read http://blog.sudev.in for topics ranging from here to there. ___ ilugd mailinglist -- ilugd@lists.linux-delhi.org http://frodo.hserus.net/mailman/listinfo/ilugd Next Event: http://freed.in - February 22-24, 2008 Archives at: http://news.gmane.org/gmane.user-groups.linux.delhi http://www.mail-archive.com/ilugd@lists.linux-delhi.org/

Re: [ilugd] Virtualization software
Has anyone tried running some kind of virtualization software in production on a Linux server and is there any feedback, comments, suggestions, benchmarks? Yes, I've used xen and vmware and both have served me equally well. Use vmware if you want the commercial support in a heavily loaded data center. Use xen if you can handle the support yourself or can depend on the community. In performance both are compareable and currently, IMO, vmware has a lead in providing better management features with the VI3 line. If you're looking to install a virtualisation software on top of a linux distro, then your choice is between vmware workstation or a xen patched kernel. There are other virtualisation solutions also including kvm, lguest all of which should serve you well for the usual test cases. In the end your choice would depend on your use case and requirements. Regards, Sharninder Disclaimer: I work for vmware. ___ ilugd mailinglist -- ilugd@lists.linux-delhi.org http://frodo.hserus.net/mailman/listinfo/ilugd Next Event: http://freed.in - February 22-24, 2008 Archives at: http://news.gmane.org/gmane.user-groups.linux.delhi http://www.mail-archive.com/ilugd@lists.linux-delhi.org/
