[ilugd] Interesting Article... Few comments there should go a long way

2008-10-07 Thread Dinesh Shah (દિન ેશ શાહ/द िनेश शाह)
Which Business Desktop OS? Windows or Linux

Microsoft Windows has been the ideal choice for the desktop because of
its simplicity, ease of use, good application and hardware support and
also because it's easy to pirate. Over the years we've also seen the
emergence of Linux as the new desktop OS platform with operating
systems like Ubuntu, Fedora, Linspire and SLED gaining acceptance.
This new acceptance of these Linux flavors is because Linux is no
longer the command line OS as it was perceived earlier. All these
flavors come equipped with user-friendly features and they're also
easy to use. Many businesses tend to shift from Windows to Linux based
on preconceived notions and assumptions.

[ilugd] [XPost] Why I think Foss.in/2008 is missing its target..

2008-10-07 Thread Dinesh Shah (દિન ેશ શાહ/द िनेश शाह)
With his his 'Omelette Post' about FOSS.IN/2008 Call for
Participation, Atul Chitnis, the FOSS.IN team 'leader' indeed sent an
strong sign.

For those who aren't aware of it, FOSS.IN is the longstanding major
FLOSS event in India and, still (just like our beloved Debconf) only
run by volunteers.

Last year, along with Sam Hocevar, I had the chance to attend the
event and share the groove of that big, huge, conference, with over
2,000 participants. Some other Debian fellows also made it in the past
(Jaldhar, Bdale...).

[ilugd] Delhi company apparently contributing to madwifi code

2008-10-07 Thread PJ

Just a note in passing. The latest madwifi driver source (used by atheros
chipsets) had:

URL: http://svn.debian.org/wsvn/pkg-madwifi/?sc=1rev=359
Log:
* New upstream SVN snapshot.
  - new HAl version 2008-08-15 produced in co-operative effort by
OpenWrt.org, DD-WRT and MakSat Technologies (P) Ltd.

That's cool. Maksat are in Okhla and do WAN routers. Looks
like the times they are are a-changing in Delhi too.

PS:

I hope they aren't contaminated by the controversy around dd-wrt's
approach to source code

The Nintendo Wii is not available in India officially yet, afaik.
Although you might be able to get on off ebay for about 20k or so. you
can buy the wiimote also seperately.
