Re: [ilugd] Internal-External HDD: Possible ?
If you don't want an extra power supply probably because it'd be too cumbersome to carry around, then you can purchase a laptop hard disk along with its case. The case will cost 150-300 INR approx. This is really a better option, i, myself is using the one, a 250G external with a carry case and AC adapter, its really difficult to carry and manage, Laptop hard disk with an external casing are USB powered and small, so are easily manageable. Also look around for Solid State hard drives if you are not in mood to carry a lots of multimedia stuff with you, as they are small sized, in both size and capacity but really fast as compared with SATA and PATA. Uptill now you'll get 16 GB or a maximum of 32 GB with a price tag of approximately 3K and 5K respectively. External one is approximately of the size of Home Lite Match Box, slightly bigger than normal match boxex. An added advantage is that they don't have any rotating part in them and are USB powered, and therefore resist shocks and crashes. A + for a good external hard drive. Re: [ilugd] Internal-External HDD: Possible ?
Dear Mr.pai, I want to use an internal hard disk as an external hard disk. I think PATA/SATA convertors to USB are available but what is to be done about power supply to the disk when it is outside the cabinet ? Two USB ports will be used to power up the external casing accommodating SATA drives. I had seen Exboot device. I suggest you go with name brand cases (transcend works for me) whether it is 3.5 or 2.5 disks. They cost a bit more but in my experience they have worked 100% of the time v/s generic cases. The time/effort you loose if things do not work negates the cost savings. -- Arun Khan ___ ilugd mailinglist -- ilugd@lists.linux-delhi.org http://frodo.hserus.net/mailman/listinfo/ilugd Archives at: http://news.gmane.org/gmane.user-groups.linux.delhi http://www.mail-archive.com/ilugd@lists.linux-delhi.org/
