Re: [ilugd] Faster way to take backup?

2009-09-30 Thread anirudh singh shekhawat
Hi

I would like to share the following backup script?being used by me. Works
Fine. Just in case some one needs it.

My /home is 40 GB abd?tar.gz file comes to 20 GB and takes about 1 hour 10
 mins to create.

My question is - Is there faster way to take the backup?

[snip]

 echo - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - /root/logs/dailybackup.lo

I use rdiff-backup, extremely easy to use and does an incremental backup and
only copies what is new after the first backup, and also keeps screenshots
of backup to go back to a previous state of data.

Why not go the incremental way? I've been using Brackup successfully,
and I'm planning to move to a git-based system - although the
existing-git-repositories-as-submodules keeps throwing me off. It's been
a while since I tried, so the situation might have changed.

I think it's time someone created something similar to Apple's Time
Machine based on one of these incremental backup solutions. Why do we
need to remember cryptic commands to do something as simple and
integral as automatic foolproof backup?

Hi all,
What I would propose/add to that is you guys could also think of
having a federated service like planetplanet
(http://www.planetplanet.org/) so that once a person has written
something and you have the RSS feed, the content would be there
automatically. Its a suggestion, would be interested what people think
of it.

There is a project called Flyback.

Re: [ilugd] Problem installing DB2 on linux

2009-09-30 Thread rakesh kumar
Actually i already have DB2 dvd provided by IBM. Actually we are working on
an IBM project, in which DB2 is necessary to use. When i open that dvd and
get enter into linux wiz it shows disk 1 and there i found a install_db2
file
 then i used #sh install_db2
on my fedora machine
it then displayed a message There is no support available for your
operating system.
By the way thanks for sending me the link. I will read this.
