Debian will not need Ubuntu to survive but Ubuntu will always need Debian.

Very well said, Sudhanwaji. You hit the nail on its head. Thank you.

I guess you forgot one of the basic principles of buying a computer for
using with GNU/Linux. The first thing one has to do before buying is to
scout around for hardware that is fully supported. One way would be to
look for computers which have Linux pre-loaded, so that one knows that
all the hardware will be supported. The other way would be to take a
live distro with you either on a CD or a pen drive and test it before
deciding to buy. If one just decides to buy a machine and then tries to
make it run on any of the available distros, one might face such
problems.

  ANU is not funny though!

When I talk about the GNU project, I usually start with ANU, because RMS
is supposed to have tried out different alphabets, and say that it might
have been named ANU if RMS had been an Indian!

I suggest you take a look at Diego Saravia's Antidistro. This is in
Spanish, but a Google translation can just about give you the idea:
http://docs.hipatia.net/distros/distros.pdf

He has a project to do something similar to, or maybe exactly the same
as, what you are doing. I will find the link and send it to you soon. He
has already done some work in it.

[ilugd] Looking for Free Software developers

2009-11-17 Thread V. Sasi Kumar
SPACE (http://space-kerala.org) is looking for programmers who have
knowledge in php, python, C, etc. and interest in Free Software.
Familiarity with GNU/Linux is desirable. They may have to work primarily
in Thiruvananthapuram (Trivandrum). SPACE is looking to start activities
in other places (inside Kerala and, later, outside too) soon, and hence
there is a possibility of moving out of Thiruvananthapuram too. Salaries
may not be comparable to industry levels but are negotiable. Interested
persons can write to me personally with biodata.
