Anyone have suggestions for a router that can do the following?

 other line goes down.

 - Internal stuff like DHCP, etc.

Specific model numbers and your experience would be useful, thanks!

Hi Raj,

Why you need a router? this can be done by Linux box using ip rules and with
little bit of scripting.

 Hi Amrith,

You don't need to download these files but the packages which contains these
files. There is no single package which contains all the required files

Download the rpmforge-release rpm from the below link
http://dag.wieers.com/rpm/packages/rpmforge-release/

Once you download this link issue the below command

On Fedora box: yum install vlc

It will install vlc on your system. (Kmenu - Multimedia)

For XMMS

Click on the Kmenu and then on Multimedia.

 hey,

Buy a book on redhat linux or any other linux and then start installing it.
If you face problem post to this list.

Yahoo messenger is there for redhat linux 9 but it is pretty old, people
normally use gaim for instant chatting/messaging.

Or download the manuals from here

Redhat 9 is pretty old you can download fedora core (latest is fedora core

Regarding books Fedora/Redhat Bible by Christopher Negus is good book.

[ilugd] Pix Firewall Monitoring Software on Linux

2006-09-26 Thread ankush grover
hey friends,

I am looking for a free open source software (web based or
application) through which I can monitor the Pix Firewall. What it
should show Interface status or traffic , VPN Connectivity status, CPU
Status, Memory Status etc. I am also running DHCP server on Pix
Firewall (due to some reasons) If it can monitor that also means
showing how many IPAddresses has been assigned, to whom, what is the
lease time etc. then it will be very good.

I know about cacti but for VPN Connectivity status one has to use
telnet which I don't want to use and I don't know about monitoring
DHCP server through it. Is there any other tool through which I can
monitor Pix Firewaall ?

I am using FC3 FC4.

hey,

2 questions I have

1) Are you the registered user of mtnl means you have any account with mtnl
then your postfix MTA should be able to talk to the mtnl server.

2) You have defined smtp_sasl_password_maps =/etc/postfix/sasl_passwd

What is the entry in the sasl_passwd file? The entry should be

smtp.bol.net.in username:password

 You can define your username

[EMAIL PROTECTED] in /etc/postfix/virtual file

[EMAIL PROTECTED] mitavikas (local user)

run this command for both virtual and sasl_passwd

postmap /etc/postfix/virtual
postmap /etc/postfix/sasl_passwd

restart the postfix

If still the error persists then use

You can set the hostname of your machine to anything and then put this entry
in the main.cf file of postfix
masquerade_domains  = yourlocaldomainname for ex . sun.net

I hope it may solve your problem.

Hey,

Squid + Sarg can give you the details what you are looking for. Squid is the
proxy and sarg will give you the details of the site your browser is
visiting.

http://sarg.sourceforge.net/

http://www.squid-cache.org/

With netstat you can see your network connections like which website you
are connected etc. read the manpage of netstat

Comes default with Redhat checkout on Ubuntu

Ntop also gives you details of the network connections (Lan + Internet).

hey,

If your shares are static then you can add entries in /etc/fstab for these
shares

for example

//server/backup (windows machine)/mnt/backup(linux mount
point)cifs
  credentails=/etc/.smb,uid=xx,gid=xxx   0 0

credentials=filename
specifies a file that contains a username and/or password.
The
  format of the file is:

username=valueusername=ankush
password=valuepassword=ankush
This is preferred over having passwords in plaintext in
a
shared file, such as /etc/fstab. Be sure to protect any
creden-
  tials file properly.

Make sure /etc/.smb is 600 or 400

[ilugd] configuring squid based on groups policies on FC3

2006-06-14 Thread ankush grover
hey friends,

I am using Squid 2.5 on FC3. There are different groups for which I want to
configure squid.

The types of groups in the company are

a) Marketing Executives:
Category Most restrictive
Limit on download for example no object more than 256 kb is allowed to be
downloaded, no messengers allowed, if possible banning of sending
receiving of attachments through any webbased mail for example yahoo, gmail
etc, banning of download movies, mpeg or audio files.

b) Developers:
Category Restrictive
No limit on download means they can download big softwares, no messegners
allowed,if possible banning of sending receiving of attachments through
any webbased mail for example yahoo, gmail etc, banning of downloading of
movies,mpeg or audio files.

c) Admins
Category Restrictive but less restrictive in comparision to Developers
No limit on download means they can download big softwares, no messegners
allowed, banning of downloading of movies, mpeg or audio files, banning of
downloading of movies, mpeg or audio files.

d) Project Managers
Category Restrictive but less restrictive in comparision to Developers
banning of downloading of movies, mpeg or audio files.

e) Directors:
Category No Restriction
They are allowed to download anything they want to download, watch anything
they want to watch means no restriction.

How do I implement such policies on squid based on groups ? Right now I am
running squid with policy for marketing executives.

Please let me know if you need any inputs.

 hey,

As soon as shutdown the server this entries in /proc gets lost. When you boot
ur server you have to specify this entry again in /proc. The permanent
solution for this is:

edit /etc/sysctl.conf file and change the value from 0 to 1

net.ipv4.ip.forward = 0

net.ipv4.ip.forward=1

Hey,

the drivers for this particular lan card are not built into the kernel.

Do this

a) Download the drivers for the lan from the site for linux
b) ln -s /lib/modules/urkernal/build /usr/src/linux
c) Install the drivers

It worked for me for Marvel Yukon Gigabit Ethernet.

You can also check with the vendor of the lan card for installing it on
linux. Now a days almost all the latest lan cards comes with the linux
drivers.

for example if you have any internal dns server 192.168.1.3 and your ISP dns

then /etc/resolv.conf should be like this

demo is the user on other machine and it has the rights to do ssh, the

No / at end of path will copy the entire tree below /path/to/host

No point of using things like -p as these are defaul behavious in any

it does not do anything but allows you to see what rsync is going to

[ilugd] converting php files to xml on FC3

2006-01-04 Thread ankush grover
We are working on a project which converts php files to xml. The procedure
is like this php fetches the data from the database and then it converts it
to the xml form.

We have done this on Windows and now want to set this up on FC3 .

I am not able to find the rpm for php-libxml2 and php-iconv requires
php-common,db3,mm packages(only php-common is available).

Most important is that whether the rpm of php that comes with FC3 does have
the support for libxml2 or not. How do I know whether php has been compiled
with libxml2 support or not.

If php is not compiled with libxml2 support then can I configure the php
with libxml2 support through php-*.scr.rpm or I have to take the
php-4.3.11.tar.gz and compile it.

I am using php-4.3.11,mysql version 4.1.11 on FC3

GNU parted lets you resize ext3 partitions. See man parted for
details. There are even GUI frontends, e.g., qtparted, but these
might have slightly reduced functionality. When manipulating
partitions, it is always a good idea to back up your data ahead of
 time.

their id/ids and also want to keep one copy with us also.

I don't want to forward all the mails but mails based on their subject to

or nayi sadak or maybe in your nearest book store

btw clustering is mainly of two types like Beowulf, high-performance
parallel computing clusters for which you have specially parallelize
your program or SSI (single server Imaging ) like Mosix which allow
transparent process migration ...no changes needed in application
.there also maby distributed computing projects on java like
Globus ...you decide which one of this suits your needs

 hey Mr.Gaurav,

Thanks for the reply.I will certainly will look into this book.

backhand only supports Apache1.x not Apache 2.x.

The idea behind backhand is that you have a single apache installation
working as just the load balancer. You can keep a apache 1.x
installation for mod_backhand and keep your application on Apache 2.x

Thanks for your reply.Well that can be a good solutions.

What minimum requirements are needed in terms of hardware for Load
Balance(mod_backhand) with about 150-200 users accessing it at the same
time.

Thanks Regards
