Good thing you gave a fairly thorough idea about what was needed. It looks like the lock-in is pretty strong with your outfit. <yoda>Strong, the dark side of the source with you is.</yoda> I would suggest you don't try it - it really sounds like the expectations of backwards compatibility are too high. I would suggest that you bring in linux for new stuff which doesn't have this backward compatiblity requirement.
