Hi Saurabh Thanks for the mail , editing the hosts file will not work for me , my aim is to give a same reply to any request I get , ie whatever request my client gives , it should return with or directed to a fixed IP address Thanks Joseph --- Saurabh Nanda <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > The hostnames that you're referring to (Google, > Yahoo, etc) have > multiple IP addresses. Re: [ilugd] DNS setting for the DNS-Server :- How to resolve any request to a Fixed IP address
The hostnames that you're referring to (Google, Yahoo, etc) have multiple IP addresses. Any one of those IP addresses (randomly selected) is returned each time you query a public DNS server. This is a method for balancing the load amongst multiple servers. Why do you then want to use only one IP address? Anywho.. if you've set your mind to it - here's the solution that will work on your local machine: Edit /etc/hosts and add the following lines to it. These are actual IP addresses of Yahoo/Google. You may use different ones if you like. www.google.com 66.102.7.104 www.yahoo.com 66.94.230.48 Nandz. -- http://nandz.blogspot.com http://foodieforlife.blogspot.com ___ ilugd mailinglist -- ilugd@lists.linux-delhi.org http://frodo.hserus.net/mailman/listinfo/ilugd Archives at: http://news.gmane.org/gmane.user-groups.linux.delhi http://www.mail-archive.com/ilugd@lists.linux-delhi.org/
