Does anyone know a FLOSS tool or solution that would allow me to convert Urdu into Roman script text? Was thinking that articles like these would be of wider interest in South Asia (where Urdu/Hindustani/Hindi can be followed beyond script differences). --FN
Internet par Khawateen Ki Masroofiat What do (Pakistani) women do online The article, by Reba Shahid, focuses on how Pakistani women from different walks of life and age groups utilise the internet. It asks random women girls...an engineeer, the naib-nazima (next to the mayor) of Karachi, a journalist, students, a model, an educationist about what do they do online. Farah Mahmood, an engineer teaches at FAST Peshawar. She started using the internet in 1999-2000 when she was in college. Initially her internet usage was limited to a half an hour or an hour of surfing, mostly for entertainment purpose. Searching for game cheats and cracks online for PC games was a prime activity in those initial days She says: "I was quite ignorant of the true potential of the internet those days and actually no one taught me (my elder brother won't let me use the computer because long before I was in college I some how screwed up the system, so he put on password which I always cracked) how to use it either, I just learned how to use computer and internet myself and only later figured out that internet has a lot to offer other then what I saw during my early days of usage." Over the years Farah's internet usage has increased to an average of 6 hours daily…mainly at her workplace (which has an always on broadband connection). Internet usage at home is one to two hours on an average working day. But on a holidays it can be four to five hours at home throughout the day." More interviews too...
