[ilugd] [foss.in] GPL finally gets its day in court - and wins!
So far, the GPL has repeatedly been involved in cases that have gone to court, but always been settled privately. This was bad, because it meant that there was no real court opinion on record to act as a precedent. That is all history now: http://gpl-violations.org/news/20060922-dlink-judgement_frankfurt.html The GPL finally went to court, fought it out - and won. There is now an official record of a judgement in favvour of the GPL, finding it binding and valid. Here is the actual judgement (in German) http://www.jbb.de/urteil_lg_muenchen_gpl.pdf From a FOSS perspective, this is a massive victory, because it now provides the legal precedent that had so far been missing. I can see Eben Moglen and RMS breaking out the champagne over this! They must have been waiting for years for this!
