Knoppix would be a better choice if you want almost all of your hardware to be
recognized and configured on the fly. Beware, Knoppix is not an official product of
Debian. You might end up with a couple of broken packages into your system ( eg,
sysv-rc)

As for your original question regarding tasksel. Why don't you try mending these habit
of just popping up an email to list whenever you face a problem instead of giving it a
final try. The keys to be used in tasksel for selection probably might be "space" or
"return".

when we run tasksel as a root user then we need to
select the packages to install can anybody tell me
which keys are used to select the packages in debian
as upto this point the GUI is not installed.
I would suggest you get yourself a Knoppix CD and use it to install
Debian on your PC. Once you are done, connect to the net and upgrade the
packages.
Secondly, get out of this habit of hijacking threads. I have started a
new thread for you, please use it for further discussion.
To start a new topic of discussion (commonly called a `thread'),
compose a new message. Hit the "Write new message" button (or whatever
button your client uses). Type in the address of the mailing list as
the To address. This is the only way to actually start a new thread.
Always start a new thread instead of taking an already ongoing one,
changing the subject line and posting it again. The subject line is
only loosely related to the threading. Every mail message has a
message-id. When you "reply" or "followup" to a message, you client is
supposed to put a References header with the message-id of the message
you are replying to.
If you use an existing thread, the result is that your question is
buried below unrelated questions when looking at the mailing list in a
threaded way. This is known as `Hijacking threads'. It causes
information to be lost and you'll be less likely to get an answer.
