I have been using Reliance usb modem(Huawei CDMA EC325) for last one year
and get consistent speed of 16 kB/s most of the time. It is easily
configured by using wvdialconf .

Same model is available with Tata Indicom .

Not sure but you may check BSNL EVDO 2.4 mbps connection . It will be
of great use if you have a service in your required locations ..

do some google search on it .

IIRC, TRAI has defined 256 Kbps up/down stream as the minimum to qualify

give 'Net connection on the move but they do not qualify as broadband.

 Yes,
but it provides mobility along with good enough net access and is similar to
tata indicom's usb connection as mentioned in OP.

Isn't it possible to connect two USB modems and aggregate their bandwidths.
Considering a single CDMA modem can provide speeds of upto 144kbps,
theoretically aggregate bandwidth should peak at 288 kbps?

And if both modems are from same service provider, their next hop / gateway
should be the same, which I think is a pre-requisite for bandwidth aggregation.

My two bits.

Tata Indicom/Reliance Connections provide sub dial-up speeds. Not
recommended since you mentioned you're looking for Broadband. Try Reliance's
Wimax. Don't know about its availibility outside of metros.

I have used Tata Indicomm connection using a PCIMCIA card in the past,
though it maps to a ttyUSB eventually. The card works good, and
without problems, you just need to know the default settings of
connections, such as the number to dial, the username and password. It
definitely works better than a 56K dial-up.

As for speed, I have experienced upto 120 kilo bits per sec, when they
claim the max being 155. Connections were reliable enough for me.

Here i would like to add that Reliance's Wimax is not a mobile one. It
has got an antenna, just like a 14 LCD, and has a wire which connects
to the PC(router actually). The antenna needs special alignment with the
tower that is done by the installation person. So you cannot take it
anywhere.
Rest look for data cards. They are compatible with linux with some
hue and tricks. They are detected as cdc_acm device and can be
configured to dial to the ISP.

Forgive me if i'm wrong. I interpreted his requirements as being essentially
fixed in nature(as opposed to mobile computing) but that his location of
installation might change multiple times in the next few months. In the case
that i'm talking about, WiMax is a suitable solution.
