Try Zenoss from zenoss.com, i've personally implemented for 780 boxes and is
very satified with it.

Zabbix is good too and easier to setup than nagios anyday. OpenNMS is
a bit opaque, hard to debug and resource hungry, might require RAID-10
for its DB for making it work for that many machines but if it works
properly its auto-discovery saves you hours of effort.
