Classic and Tiger HELP!!!

2009-03-20 Thread Po-en Tsai

Hi,

I have a iMac G3 running Mac OSX 10.4, and I would like to put on
Classic, but I don't have a Classic System Folder... I have the
original iMac OS9 CD's, but it doesnt seem to let me install Classic
without installing OS9, then installing OSX again - which I dont want
to do.

The only solution I have found that suits me is get a OS9 Classic
Folder from someone that already has Classic installed. The folder
should be in your Root of your HD, for example Macintosh HD / System
Folder. It should have a OS9 icon on it.

Would anyone have a solution? Or a copy of the OS9 Classic System
Folder they can zip and host on something like Rapidshare for me?

Many Thanks,

Po-en

I'd love to zip up my Classic System Folder... but I think that may be
illegal. I'm not sure. I'll see what other people have to say. If I
can't do that, there's still a way to get classic without installing

Yeah that is what I'm referring to when I said there is another
way... it's easier to just send a zipped system folder. I can host
it on my own webserver, but I don't want to break any rules.

Po-en.

The Classic environment allows you to use legacy apps that will only
run under OS 9 on a machine running Mac OS X Tiger. The Classic
environment requires that you install Mac OS 9.2 or later. See
instructions here:

Are you sure you can't just install OS 9, leaving the other contents
 of
 the disk, including OS X?

Other thoughts: OS 9 can be copied with drag and drop, meaning if you
have an OS 9 System Folder on anything - got it on a backup disk? -
 you
can drag it onto the hard drive.

What do the system and panic logs say?

I booted to DVD (well my iPod with the Tiger installer on it) and ran Disk

Meanwhile also, Simon, since you boot into Target Disk Mode, you could run
one of many utilities that have been mentioned here on the OS while in TDM,

No, I definitely dont have OS9. I think it is trying to overwrite my
OSX installation...

Clarification:

I have original OS9 Discs Grey, (Software Install) (Software Restore).
I need Classic on Tiger - my current OS. My OS9 Discs don't want let
me install OS9 System Folder without reformatting my HDD, so I have 2
choices: 1. Wipe my HDD and start over, or 2. Get a copy of the OS9
System Folder - which will work or Classic as long it is OS 9.2.

Number 2 is what I'm trying to do, as I dont want to wipe my HDD.
