Dodgy eMacs

2009-03-22 Thread Simon Royal

Hi

As youu know. My 1.25Ghz eMac is up the shoot. It's my little boys so I need to
replace it asap.

I have read lots of forums about it and it seems to only affect the 1.25Ghz
models.

I've got two 800mhz eMacs which are fine and I had a 1Ghz ATI model from new
which wasn't affected either.

So I am wondering if it is just the 1.25Ghz models that suffer from this. If so
I shall get a different model either a 1Ghz or a 1.42Ghz one.

Simon

My school has 1 Ghz and 1.25 Ghz eMacs. Some of the 1.25's suffer from
those capacitor problems, but it also seems that the 1 Ghz's may too.
After doing some researching, I believe that every eMac may have this
problem, but the 1.25 has a way higher chance of suffering from it.
You should be safest with a 700 or 800 Mhz, or 1.42 Ghz. Don't go off
of my opinion alone though, as it may be wrong ;)

Running Imac without CD

2009-03-22 Thread Armand

Hi,

I bought an Imac G3 8.6 (and the CD drive is out). I have both an
Iomega drive USB and Firewire external disc drives. I want to use this
to upload to the hard drive. I have the software for the Iomega, but
says the software is not the correct one.

I'd appreciate any advice.

Thank you.
Armand

It is just one capacitor by the looks of it.

You could try replacing the faulty cap. Worst case you kill the logic
board, which is where you're at now...

Neither should need software to work as optical drives; since the iMac
came with USB ports, the USB drivers should be installed. Are the
drives not recognized when plugged in?

Re: eMac Checked Board

2009-03-22 Thread ./aal

unfortunately I fear that cap wont be the only bad on, just the only
one you can see

those caps came in the 100,000's and there was a very bad year for
caps that affected every computer mfg

ie every dell optiplex260 had a bad mobo due to the caps that year

I would not put any hope that one cap will fix it

Backup Filling

2009-03-22 Thread Wilton Shaw

Hello,

I just installed TechTool Pro 5 on my eMac, which is using OS 10.5.6 I
now get a message every minute telling me I only have 12% free space
left on my backup disk. I looked up Time Machine in Mac OS X Leopard
for Dummies and it said if I want to get more space on my disc, I
should place a check mark next to Automatically Delete Backups Older
Than, and then select a time frame. I've looked everywhere and I
can't find such a place to check.
Help anyone?
Thanks

Wilton
