Nanny note re spam on the list

2009-11-21 Thread Beverly Woods
Hi iMacs group members,

Recently a spammer apprently exploited a glitch in Google to post a
couple of spams to the iMacs group.

Within a couple of hours, nannies noticed, the spams had been removed
and the spammer banned.

Since then, 2 members have unfortunately REPOSTED that spam, quoting
the content and its spammy subject line, to complain about it.

Please - if you want to bring spam to the attention of the nannies -
after checking the online interface to see if we have in fact already
removed it from the archives - write us OFFLIST. (You can always do this
through the link to email the list owner on the About This group page.
Or just send email to imaclist+ow...@googlegroups.com.)

Please whatever else you do, *never* quote spam subject lines, or the
content of the spam itself, in any message to the list. Anyone who does
these things is continuing the spam damage and will be put on moderated
status for at least 30 days.

thanks,

Beverly

There's a firmware update, can't give you the list readily, but
somewhere on apple's website. You will also need XPostFacto to trick
the installer into letting you install OSX on that machine, I am
pretty sure. You can download it from
http://eshop.macsales.com/OSXCenter/XPostFacto/Framework.cfm

The 4.l.9f1 firmware update, as I said earlier, is available from Apple. All
that is needed is to go online using OS 9.x, then use the Software Update
control panel to see what updates are available. Of course, you should check
first in Apple System ProfilerProduction informationBoot ROM version. The
4.l.9f1 firmware update may be installed already.

It is not necessary to use XPostFacto to install OS X on ANY slot-loading G3
iMac.

Cool! My G3 is a tray loader, so XPostFacto is required. Just
finished installing Snow Leopard on my Intel iMac. So far, so good!

That's true; I've installed Panther 10.3.9 on my slot-loading G3 iMac
and my G3 iBook, without XPostFacto4... but I think you need that to
install Tiger
