Blueberry Blues
Greetings Group. Got a problem that I need your expertise solving. First, the basics: 350 iMac Blueberry, 6GB, 512 RAM, running OS 9.2.2 The problem: For some reason, my Blueberry, old, but still a real workhorse, will not accept my log-on password. I tried to change the password, but of course that won’t work unless you know your existing password. I’ve tried everything I can think of, and now I’m at the point of trying to boot from the original 9.0 Software Install disk. However, I’m not sure what file/folder I need to use to get my computer back up without losing all my existing data. Should I hold down the “C” key to get the machine to boot from the CD? I’m at a loss here folks … Any advice/assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thanx!! New Safari Problems
Greetings everyone. Hope everyone is having a good week. Got a few minor problems with Mavericks/Safari 7.0 which started upon my updating to Mavericks from OS X 10.6.8. For info, basic machine stats: 2007 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo iMac, running OS X 10.9 Mavericks and the new bundled Safari 7.0. RAM is 4 GB. The problems: 1. How can I clear ONLY the Safari cache without having to reset Safari in-total? By resetting Safari I lose some of my previous settings, which I want to retain. 2. Right now, the new Safari browser will initially open with my Home Page (an Excite.com page), which is good. However, when I click on a link within my Home Page, instead of opening that link in a NEW window, the link opens in the original Home Page window. This means I have to open Safari again to get back to my Home Page again. I have my settings set to “New windows open in Home Page”, which they are not doing. Any advice there? Anyone else having this problem? Other than that, I like the new Mavericks OS so far. I think it’s a great step forward. Mac Mini Problem
Greetings all. I posted this to the Mac Mini and the Intel Mac groups, but no response, so I am posting it here in hopes that someone can advise me. The basics: Mac Mini, 2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 4 GB RAM. The problem: I cannot make the trash empty. I have tried everything under the sun, as far as I know, trying to get the trash to empty. Unlocked any folders/files, re-booted numerous times (both regular and Safe Boot), ran Disk Utilities (fixed permissions), and still no success. I keep getting the pop-up asking to remove unlocked files and/or all files, which neither brings a smile to my face. It seems to start emptying, but then quits within a few seconds. Oh mighty Gurus, I beg you for a fix for this problem. I like to keep a lean, clean machine, and this problem is stepping on my reputation as a delete-happy IT manager in my home. Any suggestions/help/advice/questions would be most welcome please. Thank you. Re: DVD Issues
Hi Group. Just wanted to mention that years ago, when I first started burning CDs/CDRWs, I had trouble burning anything with my newly purchased Iomega ZIP 650 on my 350MHz iMac Blueberry running OS 9. I contacted Iomega after the first 50 coasters, and they responded with a list of preferred brands of discs. Upon switching to a few of the listed discs, I had no trouble at all burning everything I wanted. With the newer burners on the market, even the internal ones, coasters seem to be almost non-existant these days, provided you follow the burner's instructions. I suggest contacting the manufacturer of your burner(s) to ascertain if they have certain brands that work better in their equipment. iMac Question
Greetings Group. Have a question or two for you gurus: Basics: iMac 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 2 GB RAM. Question: I read somewhere on one of these groups that the Macs perform some type of automatic system routine early in the morning, like around 3 AM. Can someone enlighten me as to where I can find info regarding these late-nite routines? I usually shut down my computers at bed time, and would like to know if I'm harming or preventing the routines from running. Anyone know of this? Also, which Macs do this? I have the above iMac, a Mac Mini, and a Blueberry 350 MHz iMac. Thanks. Bill -- You received this message because you are a member of the iMac Group, a group for those using Apple iMacs and eMacs. First, the basic info: 2.4 GHz Intel iMac Core 2 Duo 2 GB RAM The Problem: In my Dock, I had a folder entitled Favorites that I had stored my favorite MP3s and video clips in. Today, Friday the 13th of course, upon starting up my iMac, the place holder for this Favorites folder in the dock showed a question mark where the icon for the folder should be. Hmm. I detected a problem. Here is what I did to try to rectify the problem: Did a Find for my Favorites folder. Not anywhere it shows. Restarted in Safe Mode. No change in the dock icon. Restarted in normal mode. No change. Ran Disk Utility, and, as is usual, it noted many permissions that were whacky. Repaired permissions, verified permissions and disk. No problems with that routine. Restarted normally. No change in icon; still the question mark. How can I get my Favorites folder back easily? I have a back-up of my entire system, but if there is an easier way to fix this, I sure would like to know. Also, what would be the underlying cause for this behavior? Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!! Did a Find for my Favorites folder. Not anywhere it shows. Restarted in Safe Mode. No change in the dock icon. Restarted in normal mode. No change. There's a dead crow on your windshield, so you restarted your car's engine. Windshield wipers won't work without the engine running ... : ) Ran Disk Utility, and, as is usual, it noted many permissions that were whacky. Repaired permissions, verified permissions and disk. No problems with that routine. If your permissions were foo, then you'd see many many other problems. Also, the permissions that that function repairs have NOTHING to do with user files. Doing a verify disk pass is what should have been done. By and disk, is that what you mean? Yes. Verified everything. Restarted normally. No change in icon; still the question mark. Drag that foo icon off the dock. Icon will not let me move it off the dock. ??? Manually locate the original folder and drag it to the dock. Cannot manually find the original folder. If the original folder is AWOL, try searching for something that you know was inside it... A search returns nothing, not the folder title, nor any content names within it that I know should be there. Also, what would be the underlying cause for this behavior? Depends on what actually happened. Could be your HD threw a bad block. If that's the case, then there should be some messages in your system log. Could also be you accidentally tossed the folder into the trash... No relevant messages in system log. 2 other people have access to my computer, and I'm doubtful that one of them accidentally trashed the files/folder/icon. Guess I will reload from my back-up. Photo Anomalies in MacMail
Hi Group!! Got something strange happening here with my iMac 2.4 GHz Intel Core Duo, with 2 GB RAM, and using Mac Mail v3.3. When I receive an email with photo(s) in it, the pics look great. Sometimes, but not always, if I try to do a forward of that email with the pics, the pics get pixelated and look really crappy. Even when I include myself in the email to check if, infact, the photos actually are pixelated when I send them out, same results. Saving the pics to my desktop doesn't change anything, they still become pixelated. As I mentioned, this does happen ocassionally, but not every time. Anyone have any ideas about what is causing this problem? It's getting to be a bit frustrating. Thanks for any assistance.
