Re: Incorrect Number Of Thread Records
Ok I changed the hard drive, stuck a OS X disc in the DVD drive, held down C as I turned on the computer and after the bong it went to a light grau screen with a darker gray Apple logo. Shut it down restarted this time holding the option button down. Screen came up with DVD disk showing and asking where I wanted to boot fro. Picked the disk icon and clicked on the right arrow button. The next screen that comes up is the same light gray one with dark gray logo on it. Re-seated memory to no avail. Help!! So your CPU, memory, and buses are probably ok. and the blue background of the desktop popped up sans icons. Mouse doesn't work Perhaps a HD failure. Ran Applejack from Open Firmware No. You ran AppleJack from the root account of OS X, while booted into Single User Mode. and it said something about incorrect number of thread records, invalid volume file count. The files system on your HD has been corrupted, perhaps the data areas also. It also says that there is a missing directory record and Applejack was not able to fix the disc. AppleJack is simply a shell script that runs various utilities. fsck, aka Disk Utility, was unable to repair the disk volume. Any idea of what to do? As others have said, try a different tool. You can try booting on your OS X DVD, or an external drive, and running a Repair Disk pass with Disk Utility -- but I doubt that will work, as fsck has already failed. The next best tool is DiskWarrior. Fsck tries to repair the file system in-place. DiskWarrior is a bigger hammer - it will try to rebuild the file system from scratch, making a whole new one. Of course, this doesn't say much toward the actual cause. If your HD is failing, then the only point of doing the repair work would be to get it to the point you can make a backup... - Dan. -- - Psychoceramic Emeritus; South Jersey, USA, Earth. -- You received this message because you are a member of the iMac Group, a group for those using Apple iMacs and eMacs. Re: G3 Slot Loading Imac
Ok, I tried the paper clip thingy without success. I went into open firmware and typed eject cd but it said it couldn't do it. I tried holding down the mouse button and rebooting, also without success. Another strange thing is when you start up the little OS9 happy mac shows up and then it eventually goes into OS X. Once it goes to OS X it asks me for a password which I don't know. So it never goes any further. How hard are these computers to get apart? Can I replace this hard drive with another? But then I can't load another OS because the CD/DVD won't eject what is in it. Catch 22. Any ideas?? Bondi Blue Imac Upgrades
My father recently gave me a G3 Bondi Blue Imac 233 Mhz Processor with 96 MB memory. What can I do to upgrade this machine? How difficult is it to do? Do they still make accelerators for this?
