Re: Low bandwidth DSL or the Mac?

2012-07-14 Thread Krys Weaver
did you or someone go over your cap on dsl just a thought and is it
wireless if so check the speed in the router/setup

 Hello:

Do we blame low bandwidth DSL or the Mac?

A member of our Mac user group says her machine is getting slower to
websites and has YouTube videos stopping and restarting all the
time. Apparently, there are no other performance problems.

This is an iMac Core 2 Duo 2.4 20-Inch (Early 2008) with 1 GB RAM
running OS X 10.5.8 Leopard. Apple Software Updates have been applied.
Internet access is via Verizon DSL. Speed test shows:
 Last Result:
Download Speed: 1017 kbps (127.1 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 375 kbps (46.9 KB/sec transfer rate)

 Thanks,
 Al Poulin

For some reason I cannot print a PDF (on the second machine listed below)
from Acrobat Reader to the Laserwriter on the minimal network. The print
dialogue shows the file spooling to the printer, the green light on the
printer starts blinking, then everything resets as though the job is
done...but nothing actually printed. I can print everything else to it (web
pages, documents, etc.), and I can print PDFs to a direct-connected inkjet
printer. This has just started happening in maybe the past month or so.

Check your console log for error messages.

 Try printing from Preview.

Uninstall that abomination, er Adobe Reader, and try a much older version.

...I've had all sorts of problems like this with recent versions of
Reader. @#$% crapware. My fav now is tax forms that print fine from
 Preview but crash Reader...
