Re: Early 2009 iMac with Sierra (unsupported)-Brightness won't work

Hello! I have the same issue. The Brightness Star App has fixed the
brightness issue. It does have a checkbox were you can check for it to
start as your system starts. If that dosent work you can always use
SystemPreferences>Users>LogInItems>"+"> then search on the
Applications for the Brightness Star Apps. This will enable the ap to start
at system Boot.
Hope It Helps!

However, after rereading it, it appears that this is for laptops, and not the
iMac 91. Sorry for not reading more carefully.
So, perhaps there is no known fix for the iMac 9,1 and Sierra at this
time--unless someone out there knows of one.
Thanks,

Ah yes, building Hacks like this requires delving into some pretty arcane
hardware driver stuff.

One (kinda remote) possibility is look into using Automator to make a script to
raise the brightness on login? The app you have may be controllable via
Applescript.

Hi,
After your response, I went back and tried to find the information I
mentioned.
Here is a link to some of it:
https://www.tonymacx86.com/threads/fixing-brightness-with-custom-edid.219413/
However, after rereading it, it looks like this if for a laptop, so perhaps
there is no solution to this problem on an iMac 9,1 except for a
"Brightness" app.
Sorry for not reading carefully the first time.
But if anyone has other ideas, I would love to hear them.
Thanks,
Joe

Re: Early 2009 iMac with Sierra (unsupported)-Brightness won't work

2017-07-12 Thread Russell Courtenay
OK, I am not planning on upgrading my 2008 iMac, it is slow enough as it is. As
soon as I get some other things working, I will reinstall Snow Leopard on a
separate partition then, if I don't replace it, I plan to upgrade memory and/or
logicboard.

I like this quote from the article though:

"You may notice the compatibility list for MacOS Sierra 10.12 is a little
curious because some of the Macs that are incompatible have better hardware
than some of the hardware that is included in the compatible list. It’s unclear
why this is, but this does suggest that support for MacOS Sierra is not just a
matter of hardware specs alone, as the minimum system requirements for macOS
Sierra are not clearly defined by minimum CPU type or speed, RAM, GPU, or disk
capacity. That makes macOS Sierra a little unusual compared to some of the
other Mac OS X releases from years past, but as time goes on we may get a
clearer picture as to why this is."
