Ha Ha Ha Ha !

Deletion will not prevent further spam from that source.

So sad about the added traffic. relevant or not. Waking dogs is risky.

I'm seeing this Saudi post as well, so it's not just Colin. Since he's on

Re: Why did I receive the post about a Saudi Billionaire and the US Senate?

2018-05-17 Thread Bruce Johnson
It is trivially easy to forge the visible ‘From’ address on any email; this is,
after all, why I apparently send myself spam all the time 8-) Email addresses
are harvestable from all sorts of places (or heck even just synthesized. Back
when we had a more hands-on approach to managing spam here we would routinely
see long lists of names with ‘@pharmacy.arizona.edu’ attached, regardless of
whether or not the accounts referenced actually existed. )

If you have enabled junk filters in your mail client (and/or use any of the
online email services, who also tend to have effective spam filtering) the next
most effective anti-spam strategery is: the delete key. delete it and move on.
I vaguely remember seeing something like this email, to be honest I didn’t even
really pay attention to what folder it landed in (which would be related to the
list address per my account rules), just went “Well this is dumb” and hit the
delete key.

More traffic is usually generated on mailing lists complaining about errant
spam than the actual spam itself, often by several orders of magnitude.

2018-05-17 Thread W.Adrian D'Alessio
I visited the iMac list page ( which Google calls a group )

I do not see anything on there about a Saudi .

You can assume your email addy was copped from Google and is now
hacker/marketer property.

Handle it like spam. Check the full address from where it was sent. you may
find a clue as to the true origin. LEM filters quite well, so I am fairly
confident that while it may say the name of the list it is a spoofed send.
Try using whatever clues you find to filter as spam and take any other anti
spam measures you feel are appropriate.

Hold the alt key when booting up and the Mac will prompt the user to select
the volume to boot from. This has been around for ages, since 90s. When it
comes to macs that are 68K based, there were ways to boot from another

that was a while ago but it's documented if you are curious.

Of course, switching OSes is much more complicated than change the
rotational speed of an electric motor (or switch a gear). :-)

But, as matter of fact, there is: holding Option (Alt) key during boot,
makes the same thing: it allows you to choose your favourite OS.

Of course, you have to install whatever OS you like *before* using it! ;-D

On my iMac, I had OSX 10.6, OSX 10.9, Windows 7 and OS9 (via Classic) at my
fingertips; I could even install Linux if I fancied that. All on the same
internal drive.
I don't know many computers able to do that :-)

That "feature" has been available on Macs for many years. You can boot into
various OS's with external drives and partitions.
