Screenshot http://www.cs.st-andrews.ac.uk/~larsko/tmp/josm.png There doesn't seem to be a node where all the lines are going though. This is with the highways dump, but I get the same picture with the dump that contains everything. I've also tried with merkaartor and get a similar picture. It supports a flexible tag mapping method. The only trick I ran into is cases where I needed to map a single attribute to multi attribute: for example, alleys (highway=service, service=alley). I just made up a temporary mapping that I could later edit in JOSM. I also had a look at the cloudmade dump for Belize and a large number of nodes are connected to a node several thousand km away from whereever it should be. I loaded the cloudmade Belize extract, and I don't see the phantom connections when I load it in JOSM. I do see large numbers of empty nodes - the cloudmade extract is missing much coastline. Re: [Imports] Import of Belize roads
Ok, I think I need some more pointers. I have a line shapefile with attributes "highway" and "surface" and the values they should have for each line. I've tried to export it to OSM using - ogr2osm, which crashed on the full data and gives me points instead of lines in the final file with partial data, - gpsbabel, which doesn't preserve the attributes (or even set them when I tell it to explicitly) and also gives me points, - merkaartor, which imports the shapefile fine but doesn't keep the attributes, - qgis with OSM plugin, which also doesn't keep the attributes. Is there any way of doing this and preserving the attributes? I also had a look at the cloudmade dump for Belize and a large number of nodes are connected to a node several thousand km away from whereever it should be. I've given up for now, any help would be appreciated. Lars ___ Imports mailing list Imports@openstreetmap.org http://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/imports

Re: [Imports] Import of Belize roads
Would it be acceptable to import this data set? Is there any way I could overlay it with the existing data to see which roads are there already? I'm aware of the usual tools like JOSM, but they only allow me to get the data for a small area and I don't want to download planet.osm just for that. [Imports] Import of Belize roads
Hi all, I've come across a public domain data set with roads in Belize[1] that contains many roads which are currently not in OSM. Would it be acceptable to import this data set? Is there any way I could overlay it with the existing data to see which roads are there already? I'm aware of the usual tools like JOSM, but they only allow me to get the data for a small area and I don't want to download planet.osm just for that.
