[efloraofindia:134581] Kas Week: Lobelia heyneana

This is possibly the smallest plant and flower on Kas plateau. You have to
go down on your knees and comb the ground to locate this 5 cm plant and 0.3

Re: Fwd: [efloraofindia:134608] KAS Week::(Indian Pavetta - 03/10/2012 - NJ)

2012-10-10 Thread Gurcharan Singh
Pavetta crassicaulis Bremek. (1934) can't be the correct name for Pavetta
indica L. (1753) for simple taxonomic reasons of priority.

Perhaps reference to original publication of Bremek. (Repert. Spec. Nov.
Regni Veg. 37: 112 1934.) can help, since P. crassicaulis was described
from South India.

If both P. indica L. and P. crassicaulis grow in India, obviously name
Indian pavetta should go to former.

Re: [efloraofindia:134626] Triumfetta rhomboidea Jacq. from Hooghly

2012-10-10 Thread surajit koley
Usha Di,

In "Plant Groups" several wild plants have been mentioned as OKRA, in
Bengali, with a prefix like TIKI or BON. It appears to me that OKRA had
been chosen specially for spiny fruits, eg. one of the Bengali names
of *Xanthium
strumarium* is OKRA and it came from
Hindi.
But OKRA may not be spiny too, as in
TIKI-OKRA
.

Thank you & Regards,

surajit

reliable source, specially for leaf sizes, more evident in my grass & *
Sesbania* uploads.

2012-10-10 Thread Rajesh Sachdev
I have a suggestion to the photographer(s) - a genuine suggestion. I have
observed photographer(s) clicking the species in dark/black background
and then upload it for ID purpose. Such clicks are not sufficient for
IDing the species. Such clicks not only hide the habitat but also sometimes
the habit of the plant species. My request to the clicker(s) that atleast
for the ID purpose please post/upload your clean and clear click without
much of photography skill.

Re: [efloraofindia:134689] Flower ID request - RK1 - 10-Oct-2012

2012-10-10 Thread Rashmi Khiani
Dear Neil ji,

Thanks a lot for the quick identification. I checked the archives and
found one thread with your photos of this plant and it looks
identical.

But I am slightly confused because I got a private reply from Mr P. K.
Sujith (pasted below) and he identified the first photo as Sida acuta
and the last photo as Sida rhombifolia. I am sure that all the photos
I have clicked are of one plant only.

Thanks also to Dinesh ji for your response.
