The inflorescence part mimics the snake-hood thus plant is popularly

The 5 foliate leaves (-39), the short, conical stigma (-44), the 4
lobed disc and 4 merous flowers are clearly seen. The longer petiolule of
the terminal leaflet (-39) is also appreciated. The leaf opposed tendril
 is
 also seen.
However, in my specimen the leaves are a bit broader (they are
classically described as 'lanceolate'). Plant was not fruiting.

This species, I believe, has not been positively identified earlier and
is not there in the eFI database (do not see it on FOI either).

[efloraofindia:196942] Gardenia (Rubiaceae)

2014-08-14 Thread J.M. Garg
Dear members,

I have updated eFI (efloraofindia) page on Gardenia
https://sites.google.com/site/efloraofindia/species/m---z/r/rubiaceae/gardenia
 (Pl. click).

Attempts have been made to incorporate most of the species available in
India nearby areas with details keys directly or through links as far
as possible. It’s quite possible that there may be some discrepancy in the
accepted names synonyms taken from other links.

Species discussed so far in efloraofindia are given at the bottom of the
page in the form of links against Subpages. On clicking them one can see
all the details.

If someone can provide complete list of Indian species with source
references it will be wonderful.

Any comments/ corrections are welcome.

[efloraofindia:196963] Maharanga (Boraginaceae)

2014-08-14 Thread J.M. Garg
Dear members,

I have updated eFI (efloraofindia) page on Maharanga
https://sites.google.com/site/efloraofindia/species/a---l/b/boraginaceae/maharanga
(Pl.

Re: [efloraofindia:197012] Flora of Munnar :: FOR ID :: Trichosanthes ¿ costata / tricuspidata / ? :: DV01AUG

2014-08-14 Thread Dinesh Valke
Thank you very much Gurcharan ji for ruling out T. costata.

The fruits of the posted plant are almost same as *T. tricuspidata*.

The flowers of *T. tricuspidata* that I have seen in earlier sightings have
always appeared to look dishevelled unlike the prettier *T. cucumerina*.
Here in the posted photos, the flowers appear to be much larger version of *T.
cucumerina*.

The leaves too seem to be not deeply lobed ... thus not confident whether *T.
tricuspidata*.

Regards.
Dinesh

2014-08-14 Thread Samir Mehta
Dear Radha,

I am having some problems at my end and am unable to access the device on
which I store images.
The underside of the leaflets were glabrous (as was the rest of the plant).
Please tell me which characteristic of the petiole you are looking for and
I will choose the image which shows the characteristic clearly (will take a
few days as we are going to be away from the city).

Regards,

Samir

The 5 foliate leaves (-39), the short, conical stigma (-44), the 4
lobed disc and 4 merous flowers are clearly seen. The longer petiolule of
the terminal leaflet (-39) is also appreciated. The leaf opposed tendril
 is
 also seen.
However, in my specimen the leaves are a bit broader (they are
classically described as 'lanceolate'). Plant was not fruiting.

This species, I believe, has not been positively identified earlier
and is not there in the eFI database (do not see it on FOI either).

 Samir Mehta

Re: [efloraofindia:197050] Hooghly : Polygonum serrulatum Lagasc. ; Boiss . Fl. Orient. iv. 1028? (FBI.v.38) ?

2014-08-14 Thread surajit koley
The ID is wrong.

A doc can be found on Indian species -
http://www.cibtech.org/J%20Plant%20Sciences/PUBLICATIONS/2014/Vol-3-No-2/JPS-018-013-SRIVASTAVA-FAMILY-INDIA.pdf
There is no *Polygonum serrulatum* Lagasc. in India, instead it is non
Lag., synonym of *Polygonum longisetum* deBruyn and I am not sure if my
plant or those of eFI can be same.

It is getting very very complicated.

Thank you

Regards

Thanks for this post. I think you need to recheck the ID for this plant.
The Plant List mentions Persicaria decipiens (R.Br.) K.L. Wilson as the
accepted name for Polygonum serrulatum Lag.
Moreover, your photos do not match with the images available on net:
 http://www.zambiaflora.com/speciesdata/image-display.php?
 species_id=121850image_id=3
 http://www.zimbabweflora.co.zw/speciesdata/species.php?species_id=121850
 Regards,
 Ritesh.

Missed your feedback yesterday, didn't receive email. Yes, I have seen the
accepted name in The Plant List. But, I have deliberately used the
name/entry in FBI or Bengal Plants or in Botany of Bihar and Orissa for
 reason I will explain eventually.
Perianth color is variable and taxonomically less important (atleast in
 Persicaria)
I think I can ignore what FoZ shows or displays. Please note :

1. As per FBI/BP/BoBO perianth colour white in Indian plants
2. raceme stout short
3. leaves subsesiile and glabrous with slightly strigillose (or
glabrous) margin
4. cillia not longer than ochrea tube

 Thank you

I agree that it doesn't look like the one in FoZ, but at the same time
neither the other uploads in eFI
 https://sites.google.com/site/efloraofindia/species/m---z/po/polygonaceae/persicaria/persicaria-decipiens,
except one which is not clear, looks like the one in FoZ !!!
There is an interesting account, on *Polygonum serrulatum* Lagasc., in
 Haines.
 FoP has its say -
 http://www.efloras.org/florataxon.aspx?flora_id=5taxon_id=242100108.
Perhaps, as FoP says, following taxa also need to be taken account of -

1. http://www.efloras.org/florataxon.aspx?flora_id=5taxon_id=242100101
2. http://www.efloras.org/florataxon.aspx?flora_id=2taxon_id=242339606
3. http://www.efloras.org/florataxon.aspx?flora_id=5taxon_id=242100090

There is ample provision to get confused by the descriptions in the above
 links.

However, attached here some more photographs, that I think of the same
plant species, recorded elsewhere in some other time.

 Thank you

This is common, possibly annual, in ditches or marshes. Leaves
subseesile, may be cordate, margin possibly serrulate (or with stiff
hairs?) as can be seen in the 4th pic.; ochreal cilia equal to tube length.
