[efloraofindia:208640] Re: A climber for ID (21/11/2014 - NSJ-02)

2014-12-09 Thread D.S Rawat
Only two species of Cardiospermum are known in India and differentiated as:
Capsules pyriform, winged at the angles; seeds with large heart shaped
hilumC.helicacabum
Capsules subglobose, ovate when young, not winged; seeds with small
orbicular hilum ..C. canescens
based on Pant (2000) in Flora of India vol-5 page 355.

If leaves are larger than 2 inches it should be D.papyracea. Other Daphne
species have smaller leaves (less than 2 inches).

[efloraofindia:208637] Re: 09122014GS01 tall woody legume for ID from Rishikesh, Uttarakhand-GSDEC04

2014-12-09 Thread D.S Rawat
Sir
Not a legume; it is a Boraginaceae plant.
Way back in early 1990s we collected it from the same area and tried to
identify it but it was difficult at that time. We susspected it in either
Hydrophyllaceae or Boraginaceae. Even scientist at FRI were not able to ID
it. Based on the family I searched it in FRI herbarium and identified it as
*Wigandia
caracasana* (Boraginaceae) but it took a long effort. This plant is a
forein element in India and has naturalized; not only naturalized but
spreading all along the road in the area. Excited with this, we thought to
report its naturalization in India. But based on our specimens somebody
from FRI published its naturalization in India even before this.
Those were the days without web. Now it has become easier to ID a species.

To: efloraofindia

Dear members,
Efloraofindia is
developing a bibliographic database of publications on all aspects of
Indian plants. As part of this initiative, we are dedicating a page for
every researcher at Database of publications
 to
include their list of publications. These pages and the included references
are easily searchable at efloraofindia site
 by anyone using
keywords. One can contact and request for the articles to the authors
directly or through us. Log-in to the website is not required to search or
access the details therein.

We hope that this will help researchers to achieve a wider and deeper
survey of the literature for their research and will also facilitate easy
and quick access to the publications.

Please list all your research publications by sending to the undersigned.
For open access articles, please provide links to the original source of
publication, if possible. I will get back to you after it's incorporation
in the website.

2014-12-09 Thread Alka Khare
Thank you Chauhan ji for the feedback..

As per the FOI link
: K. elegans
has twice compound leaves whereas K. paniculata has single compound leaves
and the fruits are not conical.

In the third image above, the leaves can be seen as twice compound.
Besides, the fruits are not conical.

So is this this K. elegans or K. paniculata? am still a bit confused.

Re: [efloraofindia:208609] Asteraceae Week (Part I - Radiate heads) :: Calyptocarpus vialis at Tungareshwar WLS :: 24 SEP 11 09:47 :: DV08

2014-12-09 Thread Gurcharan Singh
Yes it is Synedrella nodiflora.
Here are the differences I have dug out

S. nodiflora: Plants erect, up to 1.5 m tall, dichotomously branches;
leaves usually
at dichotomies, 3-10 cm long, 1.5 cm broad; heads 1-4 ; invol. bracts 1-2,
foliaceous, ray floret achenes with lacerate wings
C. vialis: Plants prostrate, rooting at nodes, irregularly branched; leaves
3-4 cm long, 2-3.5 cm broad; invol. bracts 4, ray floret achene not
lacerate.

Both may have leaves thee veined from base, but I think leaves can easily
help. they are larger and atleast twice as long as broad. In C. vialis they
are almost as broad as long or slightly less broader.

[efloraofindia:208608] Database of publications at efloraofindia

2014-12-09 Thread J.M. Garg

This tree is in autumn foliage. While there are several young ones, the one
I photographed was about 15 feet tall with a well-spread canopy. The leaves
grow on a drooping stalk in opposite pairs and the stalk in between the
pairs has a narrow leaf like structure. Please advise.

yes, Surajit

as we were growing up thats what fascinated us..
because my dad said it was called cardiospermum

we were full of curiosity at that information...

its name and a heart on the seed

stuff that fills a child's head...
dreams of becoming a botanist, naturalist, scientist

they start very young
all it needs is a seed
a flower
a fleeting butterfly
or a dead one with iridescent wings
a pebble
river with dolphin in water that flows upstream..
anything
if the adults can tell short nice stories

children are easy to entertain and enrich.

[efloraofindia:208593] Re: Clematis species for Id 2

2014-12-09 Thread surajit koley
Very little information can be found about *Clematis* in the century old
literatures I have. Haines or Prain doesn't help. Neither Flora Indica. It
is hard to fit this species in the list of 'Flora of British India'.

Neither do I know if any new species has been reported from the region
concerned.

If I am to fit this species in FBI, I think it would be *Clematis
triloba* Heyne.
Perhaps what we see in this plate is a flowering twig with 1) two pairs of
simple opposite leaves, 2) leaves are 3-nerved and 3) panicle with leafy
bracts, besides relatively big white flowers and achne with long feathery
tail.

Thank you
Regards

Flowers of *C. helicacabum* are very small as per Hooker, Haines,

I think this species is *C. canescens*, where leaves are (mostly)
