first the flower is past its prime and both are open
the calyx and epicalyx of the front one covered by an invading catterpillar
i think
though i suspect the calyx and epicalyx may have been the same size as seen
in pictures of Texas mallow

leaves are three veined from the base in this case, and i suspect in the
picture of texas mallow i cited above.

i suspect this could be temporirily put under Texas mallow,
as per Carmelita's opinion

and not our regular Lanka joba or *Malvaviscus arboreus Cav. *
per our thread

Gurcharanji had this as diagnostic feature
*Flowers erect, less than 4 cm long, leaves nearly ovate, 5-veined from
base.Malvaviscus arboreus Cav. *

---
there is no way to follow this up
so we are stuck with: possible diagnosis

[efloraofindia:315551] QR Codes and our databases

2019-01-26 Thread Gurcharan Singh
We already have a huge collection of information in our database, and with
technologies available, we should find ways that information available with
us should reach as widely as possible. Many official and private gardens
and parks in India are labelling plants by and many voluntary organisations
are helping in this developing. It would increase the popularity of our
websites if we have QR codes generated and displayed on our websites, so
that any one can use these QR codes in the labels in parks and gardens.
This would help in popularising our website. I have created QR Codes for
two web pages, one in efloraofindia and one in Flowers of India. You have
just to point your smartphone camera to the QR Code.At the bottom of your
camera frame you will see a small message 'View QR Code details", clicking
on it take you to next page showing full address of website, and "go to
website" at bottom. Clicking this will take you to the website.
It may be a long process to do this for all pages, but as a beginning
for new web pages being created.

Re: [efloraofindia:315545] Re: Acer Species for ID : Atlanta, Georgia : 25JAN19 : AK-59

2019-01-26 Thread Ushadi Micromini
yes
this is Japanese maple
see how easy it becomes
the branches near the lower part of mainstem have indication of how graful
they will become as it ages
...

thats why we plant japanese maple
small beautiful tree with graceful branches and shapes
and when leaves fall off
all winter we have the stem and branches to look at
of course it never is quite totally without all leaves. thats the saving
grace

NOT bloodgood. you have green leaves turning orangish-red to burgundy with
start of cold...

what you have is japanese maple usual larger leaf variety
Acer palmatum,

very common.

it could be
the leaves are not as "slender" as in the case we have... its Prashant

(the case we have is also in FOI page and Prashant had sent his case

of Spices Research"
go to his page at
https://sites.google.com/site/efloraofindia/species/m---z/p/piperaceae/piper/piper-galeatum

in your case measurements would help

but i cant refute the ID given by Saroj ji

AND there is a new piper discovered and discribed
see this paper
A new *Piper* from the northern Western Ghats and notes on economic
potential of *Piper*section *Mulder*

its leaves and fruits and Location of your vine seem congruent to this
